Best ball cleaner?
« on: February 19, 2016, 02:13:46 PM »
I'm sure this has been asked a bunch of times but I can't seem to find much on it  wondering what the best bowling ball cleaner is in everyone's opinion? I throw storm and roto grip if that matters. I've read that lmb cleaner is very good but want some opinions on all the options. I don't have a spinner or anything like this. Just will apply it and wipe it off.

The new LMB Int'l Extreme cleaner is now approved for use during bowling and no longer has that extreme odor. It is THE best cleaner, in my experience, at the alleys (the only right time to clean your balls) because it is just an alcohol (an industrial strength, high carbon alcohol, just still just an alcohol). No other cleaner, other than Hook-it or Clean n Dull (which are very hard to use properly at the lanes) or an abrasive Like Gel Scuff or Resurrection).

Is that the Blue colored liquid sold at Buddies? I just picked up a bottle and it does have a strong smell.

I like Hook-It the best for after bowling sessions. Pretty much removes everything from belt marks to track rings but is only approved before and after sanctioned events. I also use Remedy Rx during league if needed.

I use the Vise cleaner. It's at my local pro shop, so I don't have to order it online. It's reasonably priced, does a good job and doesn't have an offensive odor.

I have to say though, I really like the original version of the Powerhouse Adrenaline Steriod wipes in the zip top package. The ones in the baby wipes cannister don't work near as well. I pickup some single use ones last night from the pro shop, and they aren't the original either. Ebonite needs to bring that product back.

My LMB Extreme too. Yes blue.  Just got mine this month and it stinks. Definitely smells like acetone or nail polish remover.  I couldn't even leave a bottle with the spray nozzle on it because it wasn't air tight and would fill my garage with that odor.

Charlest, if they did recently change this, and there shouldn't be any of this smell, please let us know.  If so, I will try to get the newer version.

This is no different than what I recently got from Buddies after a period f time when they were out of stock.....to add to your comments....it also evaporates very quickly. I am not please with the smell one bit because I had something like this (maybe the same) in a small spray bottle and I simply could not use it because the smell was so strong. This seems slightly less, not its sure not as Charlest described.

You must have a very strong sense of smell; few people do these days. I myself have a pretty good sense of smell, much better than many other people; so I am kind of sensitive to such things.

While many people complained about the previous, the original version (non-"Extreme"),  no one has said a word about the smell of the Extreme, USBC approved version. In fact, I have warned people not to buy it if they have asthma or some other respiratory problems. While many things may create a smell like acetone, as far as I know there is no acetone in Extreme or in the original. It is, just as I said above, an alcohol.

The original version, which was not submitted for approval to the USBC, had a VERY, intense strong aroma. (That said, it is nowhere near as "Stinky" as That Purple Stuff is.) :) Still I did worry about it myself.
As I said, when I used it at the alleys (I only used it at home out in the garage or next to a wide open window), many people asked me what that strong "stink"/aroma was. Now, no one comments. I have gotten several teammates from both my leagues to use the Extreme version regularly, after bowling. Not one of them has complained about the smell.

The new version, approved by the USBC, is the same price a the old and I've only found it at Buddies, so far.

Unless your bottle says "Extreme"on it, it is the old version and it has an intense aroma. The new smells, but barely and is not offensive int he least

Mine says Extreme in it....ill send you a small sample size if you would like to tell me that I have a strong sense of smell, or they bottled the old stuff into the new Extreme.
Just PM me an address.

TheGom,

If the bottle says "Extreme" on it, then this is the latest version. I trust they're not putting the old stuff in the new bottle. If the smell still bothers you, then by all means, don't use it. I don't condone suffering, for any purpose.

I am not a representative of LMB; I am not selling it and making money off its sales. I wish I were. I am only relating my experience with it, relative to other cleaners I have tried. I am passing on, sharing what I know about it.

As far as deep cleaners, That Purple Stuff does a great job cleaning the oil and dirt off the balls despite the high price. My other favorites are Motiv Power Gel Scuff, Ultimate Black Magic Reguvenator and Adrenaline Wipes. I don't use my Adrenaline Wipes much unless I'm bowling a tournament the entire weekend, then I would use it a day or two before I bowl.

Regular cleaners, Motiv Power Gel cleans the balls quite well but if you want something that will add a tacky feel to them, Remedy RX and Powerhouse Power Wash are my top choices.

I've recently switched to using a cleaner that was created by my local pro shop owner.  It's called Wipeout (http://www.wipeoutbowling.com/) and is approved for USBC anytime use.

It comes in several different sizes, but the 32 oz size is where the best value is IMO.  Most of the other popular cleaners that I've seen out there sell for over $30 a quart, but Wipeout in 32 oz is only $20.

I've found it to be better than 50:50 SG and alcohol, but honestly probably not as good as Clean N Dull.  I'll still use CnD once a week or so for a deep cleaning, but Wipeout is my new go to cleaner after each set.
