best ball for low track bowler
« on: October 29, 2009, 09:44:48 AM »
hey all-
i was just wondering what type of ball is best suited for a low track bowler like myself, i also have kind of slow speed and medium revs. the reason i ask is because i seem to struggle with polished/pearl balls, so i am wondering if it's because of my track. i'm looking to get a new ball and just wanted to know what people thought. thanks!!!

Bowlers with lower tracks benefit from more aggressive coverstocks and duller coverstock preparations than bowlers with higher tracks.  The only thing that might be in conflict with that for you is your slower ball speed.

You can also use stronger layouts since your track gets equipment to push through the front half of the lane more so than a someone with a high track.

you have to go by your track AND tilt.

my brother is a low track bowler but since he still covers a large portion of the ball he has no problem using polished balls.

if you are spinning the ball and low track well then your going to naturally push the ball farther down the lane before it turns. you will need a more aggressive surface then someone of the same speed and revs that doesnt track low and spin.

icewall is dead on regarding the importance of your axis tilt.  Do you know what it is, or how to measure it?  --  JohnP

i believe my axis rotation is close to 90 degrees, my ball driller told me i need to stay behind the ball more, i tried this and my average went down 20 pins this summer. i am much more comfortable/confident with my low track style.

Not axis rotation, axis tilt.  Go to the following website

http://www.buddiesproshop.com/9/Tech_Center.html

First look at the Bowling Terminology page to learn what axis tilt is and how it differs from axis rotation.  Then look at the How to Measure Track Diameter page, then go to the Asymmetrical Layout Guide where you'll find a chart that correlates track diameter and axis tilt.  Your tilt will tell us where you are on the continuum from end over end roller to spinner.  --  JohnP
