Over the past few years I have seen more younger bowlers after they release the ball they follow through across the body to the left side of their head (right handers). I was always taught to follow through to your target. Is this the new way that is being taught? What is the benefit if any of it? Remember I have not been bowling for a few years myself, I have seen this while taken my son bowling and watching other kids. Now I am not saying that this is wrong or terrible so don't rip on me for that. I am just wondering is all.

Not just dropping her shoulder and bringing her arm up in front of her face. It was a very distinct right to left movement of her arm after the release.

This is the part I haven't seen explained. It basically states the bowler's right hand after their release is over their left shoulder. Would a release like this be close to a spin.

I have seen bowlers release late and their hand is over the ball as they release with their arm extended over the lane.

I just watched the first bit of that video and that isn't what I saw from the Wichita State bowler.

The linked video shows a swing slot like others here have described, shoulder down, arm directly below the shoulder and up toward the target with the follow through after the release. The arm will sometimes comes directly in front of the bowlers face or even a little to the left (for a right handed bowler).

I feel the OP was referring to an arm motion that comes completely across the body, at or even below shoulder level with the follow through. The young lady during the collegiate singles championship TV broadcast did it time and again. Her arm slot was not vertical in line with her shoulder and head(as in the linked video), it was at an angle that ended with her arm coming across her body.

Fagan was the only one I saw the way I am describing. The others will come up towards their face and then come back to the right. Fagan had a shot that he came up on the left side of his face. That is what I am talking about. I will have to look for the link to the video that shows a lot of college players doing what I am talking about.

If you go here http://www.faganbowling.com/ask_fagan.html look at the 5th post from the bottom. Fagan somewhat explains why he releases it the way he does. I think it's a way to have high revs but cut back on axis rotation for a more controlled reaction if I'm reading it right.

It doesn't matter if you're a stroker or a cranker or somewhere in between. Tilting the shoulders puts your targeting eye over the ball and creates a swing slot to keep it there. If you don't cock/uncock at release, your arm will wind up next to your head. If you employ the cock/uncock at release, your arm will wind up in front of your face.

Oregonbowler that was great. I am glad you posted that. It really explains a lot. Reading through it all I could think about was the way I had coaches working with me to keep shoulders level, keep everything squared up, etc. I did have one person tell me who was working with me that I did have a great swing and it just fell right into place in the pro slot as he called it. I knew what he meant but now I have a better understanding of it. I have never crossed my hand over my face like they are talking about but I understand better of why it is being done. So once again thanks.
