Best ball manufacturer
« on: August 06, 2004, 07:23:20 AM »
I’m probably going to catch some flak but I thought I would post some observations.

During the past 5 years I’ve switched manufactures each year, just looking for that perfect ball line.

Ebonite
Storm
Track
Lane 1
Dynothane

After looking at my averages I saw a 6 pin difference between high and low average over that 5 year period.  Doesn’t appear to me that there really is that much difference between any of them.

This year I’m taking a different approach, I’ve got a mixture of Ebonite, Storm, Lane 1 & Dynothane.  Just trying to see if that makes an appreciable difference.

ive thrown storm,brunswick,dyno-thane,columbia,ebonite, and lane one. my order would be.

tie for first brunswick and storm. was in love with storm and started throwing the inferno line and it fits me well.
third would be ebonite. i got my first ball from them this year and love it.
fourth dyno-thane
fifth columbia
last but not least lane one. it just doesnt match up for me and id never buy another one.
i just got a hammer and wont throw it til wendsday so i cant rank them.

Personally, I only throw Track. Their equipment matches my game best. I have tried all others except a few and have reasons for not liking/throwing them anymore. Although, I wouldnt mind trying newer stuff from certain companies. Until I do, I am a Track fan 100%.

I'm sponsored by Brunswick.  They pay me NOT to use their equipment.  The other manufacturers haven't wised up yet.

I started out throwing mostly track stuff because that was what was in the old pro shop that I used to go to...nowadays, the Columbia stuff gets the job done for me.

The 3 best companies I have thrown are Storm, Brunswick, and Lane #1.

I feel Brunswick equipment reads lane conditions very well, perhaps the best out of any of the 5 companies I have ever thrown with. (The other 2 being Columbia and Track) I don't feel the impact Brunswick balls have when they hit the pocket is as strong as either Lane #1 or Storm, however it carries very very well.

Lane #1, I've only thrown the Golden Nugget, but it is in my opinion the best particle ball I have thrown out of the three I have, other ones are the X-Factor Re-Loaded and Phenom Unleashed. It has a nice strong backend and handles carrydown a lot better than the Re-Loaded and Phenom Unleashed ever did. Every pocket hit with that ball creates a ton of pin reaction and it's not uncommon to get a few flying messengers to take out those 9 or 10 pins. I've gotten more messengers with this ball than anything else I own.

Storm equipment is very good, but I feel that it struggles a little bit on carrydown and seems to lose it's explosiveness the more games get on the ball. But that is for me, not everyone.

Personally I don't think you can go wrong with any of those 3 companies as they all make solid equipment. I am looking to get the Hammer Big Block Diesel so I can see how Hammer is. I have no desire to throw Ebonite especially after they just put out a whole slew of balls. I don't think they needed to do this, it seems to be a bit excessive. Columbia I don't care for, the only ball they've put out recently that interested me was the Detour. But I'm not really sure about it. Track I enjoyed the Phenom Unleased for awhile, but once I started throwing Brunswick and Storm, I felt it didn't work as good for me anymore.

Ultimately, the balls are as good as the person throwing it and if the balls are matched up on the proper lane conditions. Drilling also plays a big role as some balls work better with certain drill patterns as opposed to other drill patterns. It's best to find what works for you. I feel it's good to try a few different ball companies because there may be some equipment which is well suited for the bowler.

There isn't to much difference its just most think if one or two balls are bad the whole manufactures suck.

I think they just need to learn that all the balls are round and will knock down 10 at any given time.

hi from good old germany,

i tried a few company´s over the last years but the only thing i can say

C O L U M B I A   300  rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the other company which has also really great balls is track.

i tried storm: shock trauma and x factor deuce which i did´t liked. on our laneconditions the deuce hooked absolutely nothing, and i mean nothing. it was drilled really good and on another lane with less oil it worked better but my columbia300 balls hook the storm balls out ( i hope you know what i mean ) and has more power into the pins.
i also tried brunswick detonator, ebonite killer instinct and v2 strong, amf amforce but every time i come back to my columbia balls.

when i was 5 years i got my fist ball, a blue 8 lbs. columbia u-dot. this is 23 years ago but this ball is sill in a box in my pro-shop.

best wishes

timo

As you can see from my profile, I use a little bit of everything.  I'd hate to be limited to one manufacturer.  I'm pretty sure you could cover just about all conditions that way, but there will always be something that could be covered better by someone else.

I guess for a few years I was a Hammer man, but then after bowling with my first Storm ball I became a Storm convert. Nowadays I have one Ebonite and the rest Storm, but I'm not against trying any of the other companies (as I think Track and Brunswick will be next for me)....

I find that Columbia works best for me.My C300 balls all hit and carry better than any other company I have used.
Ebonite is no.2 for me however,I've had trouble with longevity with this brand.

there has NEVER been a better time to use brunswick equipment. their line-up for 2004-2005 has it all. high end balls, mid-priced balls, entry level balls that have some pop, and even great looking spare balls. new coverstocks and cores, familiar coverstocks and cores, proven winners and upcoming new winners.

the deadwood management that WAS at brunswick is gone and their products are of a very high quality.

brunswick does have a computer aided robot that tests bowling balls---it's called throbot.to my knowledge they are the only company that has one.
