Which ball, and why? Thanks in advance for your input.

I'd suspect your mistake was one I make quite a bit myself. If you put a control drill on the HR, it is probably best used with polish. Once you dull the ball down to 2000 or 3000 grit, the control drill will often make the backend very slow and leave you lots of back row, 1 and 2 pin spares (these balls tend to use up too much energy in the mid-lane.). If you use strong-ish balls like the HR and the Asylum with dull surfaces, you often need stronger reacting drills, not control drills. By stronger I mean smaller VAL angles or pin-up drillings (to be very generic). If you have a higher tilt or more rotation in your release, you don't need smaller VAL angles.

^THIS!^ Describes the reaction I was getting to a tee. The problem is I didn't like the way the ball handles with polish for me at my center as it made it very over/under on the spotty backends at my house. I already put an order in for an Asylum but thank you for this info so I won't screw up the asylum with a control drilling. I may have my driller plug the hy-road and try a different layout or I may see what I can get for it while it's a single drill. Thanks for your help everyone. So I finally bought the Asylum and got a chance to throw it today and I am 110% ecstatic with my decision. I bowled on a pair that had just finished a kids party and usually at my local house, this would spell disaster for me since I am slightly speed dominant and carrydown is a nightmare. The Asylum handled this absolutely phenomenally. I often run into similar conditions in my second shift league during the winter and always struggle to consistently carry even on decent pocket hit. I found that statement especially true with the Hy-road I have. I love the earlier roll of the Asylum and it definitely suits me much better than the Hy-road. It does need a bit more oil but as long as I didn't get it into the dry too early from too direct of a line, it was a beast. I could even swing it way out to the dry from an inside line and didn't suffer from carry issues. Needless to say, I am in love with this ball and can't wait to get some more games under my belt with it. It will certainly be the first ball out of the bag on a house shot.
