Best ball to battle heavy carrydown?
« on: November 20, 2009, 04:53:35 AM »
My arsenal:
Virtual Gravity - 5 inch pin above fingers, 75 degree mass bias
Fury Pearl - 5 inch pin above fingers, CG offset 1/2 inch
Twisted Fury - 4 1/2 inch pin above fingers, 60 degree mass bias

Me:
Speed - 16-17
Revs - @300
Axis tilt - I vary it.

Currently I bowl in two leagues - a Sport league using the Shark and a second shift THS league that bowls after a mixed league where a number of people throw plastic balls.  Thus I find that carrydown can become a problem in the sport league or even in the THS league, particularly in September and March when the heat is off in the center.  None of the balls I currently throw are particularly adept at handling this.  So, I would be interested and appreciated in any advice regarding filling this hole in my arsenal.  I have considered a Brunswick C System, a Brunswick Wild Card, and an AMF Mega Friction, but would really be open to anthing that I thought would work well.

Thanks.

Solid or particle pearls work pretty well depending on what the head oil looks like.

Go with the C System, it works great with carrydown. I use mine almost all the time on broken down patterns and there is some carrydown.

It's not on your list, but the Siege can handle volume down lane VERY well.  It is not a big hooking piece, but will give you good carry and continuous hook even in the heavier carry down.  Good luck.

The original Shift is great for carry down.

Good advise Drrev2000. I would go with a symmetric core over asymmetric. I have had luck using symmetric core's with some surface. If you use a skid flip ball and you can't make it flip (carry down) it kinda defeats the purpose of that ball.
