DYDS
« on: November 21, 2014, 02:42:35 PM »
DYDS or drop your damn shoulder, have any of you tried Joe's approach/theories and if so have you had success? I've read and studied it and started to implement it into my game, sometimes with success, other times not so much. I Know it will take time to change and get used to it, but I was wondering what others though. Thanks

I have been trying this for the past few months, but recently started going back to my old style. It is very difficult to change something after doing it a certain way for many years.  DYDS is something different.  Not just one or two things, but from top to bottom.  I have had success with it, and also failure.  I'm going to keep trying it because I do see a lot of positive change, higher ball speed, less effort...but mastering it is difficult for me.

IMHO it's the best way to get the ball speed necessary to push the ball through the heads on today's conditions unless you can loft it a mile or "scoot" is through the front.

I see a lot of merit in Slowinsky's idea there, but I always believe in doing what works best for you. I strive for solid fundamentals as much as anyone; therefore, over the years, I've tried countless things that I've seen, heard, or read about. In the end, it's about figuring out what you can do on a consistent, repeatable basis. If dropping your shoulder works for you, go with it. If it doesn't, go with something else that does work. If there were only one style/approach, the top amateurs and pros would all look the same out there. We all know that, while there are similarities to be seen, each bowler has his or her unique ways. That needs to be remembered and embraced. Again, I'm all for tinkering around and trying to make yourself the best that you can be; however, don't forget who/what you are in the meantime.

I implemented this last season towards the end. It has helped immensely. I have always struggled with low tilt and this has helped me in
Crease it a significant amount.

I found it is easier to makes changes to your game by fuller committing to an entire system such as this one instead if taking and implementing just a couple pieces of it and keeping some of your current game. Other than that it's just reputation until you have the muscle memory. I had a couple practice sessions per week for about a month and I felt about 80% locked into this system. After that it was just fine tuning specific areas of the system which is a constant part of bowling no matter what kind of game you have
