Nobody knows of a good bowling magazine?

It's a very good question, one I'd like to know the answer to as well. I hear alot of mentions of BTM (Bowling This Month) but do get it and have never seen a copy. I know it costs about $34 a year and that's a little steep for me, considering I'm not sure of the content...

Hope to get some good responses!!!

I subscribe to BTM, and have for the last 3 years.  I really like it, especially for all of the great tips that are in the various articles.  They have helped me out quite a bit.  Also, I've never had any of the delivery problems that are sometimes mentioned by others.  I have looked at a few of the Bowlers Journal magazine, and think that BTM is better for my needs.  YMMV.

BTM, hands down.  BJ is more for those in the business of bowling.

Don't get BJI unless you want about 1 interesting article per month and all kinds of international crap that you probably don't care about.  (I understand it's bowler's journal INTERNATIONAL but sheesh, i really don't care if swami jumanji won the finland invitational world cub open much less have an entire article about it)

My vote goes to Bowling This Month.

For a peek at what is included in this month's issue:

Quite a few proshops have issues laying about so you could glance through one there to see what the magazine is like.  Or you could order a back-issue from BTM's website for $7.50 and check it out before subscribing.

BTM used to offer one free issue so you can check out the mag.

How many pages is the typical BTM for each month?

December 2005 issue was 62 pages.

December 2001 was 46 pages.  Sorry, those are the only two I have onhand right now.

The answer depends on what you want out of a bowling magazine.

As others have said, Bowler's Journal International (BJI) is a good magazine if you want to read about the business of bowling and get bowling news, including results from the tours.  It also includes a Q&A column by former touring player Mike McGrath and a ball review section by Joe Cerar.

OTOH, Bowling This Month (BTM) contains information aimed at bowlers who want to take their games to a higher level.  Articles are written by well-known coaches, and cover topics such as mechanics (physical game), equipment, lane play, and mental game.  There is a section that contains reviews of all the newly released balls, along with a comparison chart for all the balls released within the past six months.  BTW, the Feb. 2006 issue is also 62 pages.

Reading BTM cover to cover on a regular basis can pay huge dividends - something you really can't put a price on.  It is easily worth the $34 for a year's subscription (or $55 for two years).

For anyone who goes to Nationals, BTM runs a side tournament that runs while the USBC is running.  One entry to the BTM tournament includes a one year subscription to the magazine.  BTW, BJI used to include a year's subscription to their magazine with an entry to their tournament, which also runs concurrently with the USBC.  I assume that is still the case, although I haven't played in the BJI tournament.
