Cocked wrist?? Thumb pointed up with fingers pointed at the pins??? Lift and rip like hell through the fingers??? What is the best hand position?

a cupped wrist will generate more revs and make the ball hook more but a better solution is to keep your hand position straight and come right up the back of the ball. this will cause an end-over-end roll---perfect for oily lanes.

I agree with Greg.  The best thing to do is get up the back of the ball and have as little loft as possible.  Setting the ball short and going end over end works very well.  Only on heavy oil does setting the ball short works, because with the oil, the ball will still clear the heads.  But, with rolling the ball end over end, it promotes an early roll, thus an earlier breakpoint.

if there is anyone that has some doubt about this release working on the condition described look no further than walter ray williams, jr. this man( and this release )have dominated the pba tour for years.

i was confused about this...

more side roll will make the ball skid more...
more end-over-end make the ball hook eariler...

but..what makes the ball hook more or less ??

"more side roll will make the ball skid more" and hook more in the backend.

"more end-over-end make the ball hook eariler" and hook less in the backend and more in the midlane, which gives you  the control you want and need on heavier oil.

See tinpinitis's list of factors, above.

isn't that we usually play a more direct line w/ end-over-end release on oily lane??
