Title: Best Moment In Bowling
Post by: Supermo on June 01, 2009, 01:29:44 AM
Mine was to win the Senior British Open last year after bowling for 47 yrs 16yrs in the Seniors you only start having a go at it when your 50 so you dont have to much time to do it. I had to double in the 10th in the last game of the round robin and i felt 150 pair of eyes burning my back, the first ball nearly left a 7pin but a messenger took it out but the next one was so flush it was great and the relief was just wonderful. Iv'e enjoyed bowling all this time and seen so many changes but it has got better as the yrs have gone by. So what is your very best moment in this great game that left you feeling on top of the world.

congrats on winning, for me it wasnt ANYWHERE near as good lol but i bowled a youth tourny in march, 44 ft sport shot. i qualified 8th and we played 2 game best series matchplay. well first match was against a kid who before the match when we were talking to everyone said that he should destroy me. well he missed a four pin the first game, won by 4, and then missed a ten pin last game. i made a 10 pin spare to win by 10 last game and take the series, it was a huge FU to the kid, and it was just great to throw a good shot when i needed it.

Congrats on winning!

My best moment was when I shot my first 300 game 2 years ago.  It was at the bowling alley I grew up going to with my dad, and it was one of my first "money" leagues with my dad.  Once I got up in the 10th, the WHOLE alley stopped to watch, it was something I can't really describe in words.  I hit the first two in the 10th high flush, and the last one was brooklyn that carried  I was so nervous, but the place erupted.  I doubt I'll ever have that many eyes on me again bowling, that many great bowling eyes, but I will never forget it.

Second-place finish in all-events (handicapped, however) in the Alabama State Tournament back around 92 or 93. Missed first by 17 pins.

Congrats on that big win!!

Here there is a tight! First a couple years ago my team finished 3rd in the State.. It was great as I watched one of my teammate shot 290 and another throw the front 10.  I didnt bowl that great but as a team we did great.

And then my 300(hopefully the first of many).  I bowled a late league with 2 of my uncle and my grandfather.  With non of them having a 300 it was a great feeling to have them all backing me as I tried to make it happen.

Great job Supermo. For me it was shooting 300 with my father in attendance. best moment i've ever seen was when my grandpa shot his first 300 at the ripe old age of 65.

Congrats on your great accomplishment!

My best moment was seeing my father shoot his first 300 a couple months back at the age of 60.  He was there for my first one, and it was great, but being there to see his was so much better.

Mine was when I shoot my first 300.My mom was there I was 19 and we bowled the best team with the guy who thought he was the best.My first two were ok but my last strike was bad I dont think I even hit the head pin.The guy on the other team got mad and was yelling that Iam a F-ing lefty and I carry everything, but the best part was when another guy on a seprate team punched in the face (they really didnt like each other)

I don't have any incredible ones but throwing all 3 in the tenth to win by 1 in a highschool match was pretty darn awesome.

Mine was watching my Dad right before he was diagnosed with cancer win the Dutchman Tournament optional singles event.  He had never had a high average, he was always around 170, but for that one day he averaged 230+, shooting his personal high game of 279.  With his handicap added in he set the new handicap record for the tournament in that event.  He didn't bowl much after he got sick and I still miss bowling with him to this day.

Oddly enough, my greatest moment (at least to me) seemed innocuous when it happened. It came during my only 800 series.

I have a few 300's, tons of 700's, but only one 800. The moment was the eighth frame of the last game. I had already been adding things up and knew that if I carried in the eighth on a string, all I would need was count and spares to make it. When it carried, it was as if 10,000 pounds had been lifted off my shoulders. I can still see it in my mind as the ball hit the pins and they all went down. I spared the 9th and 10th, struck on the fill ball for 812.

No, the eighth frame didn't guarantee the 800, but without it, it would have been almost impossible to get there.

I know just how you felt Stevie, my eldest son 37 was killed in a car crash just over three yrs ago he always used to ask ..have you had one of those 300s yet dad. He knew nothing about bowling so i used to tell him how hard it was to get one especially the last 3 strikes and two months later i got my first one the first time i'd ever had the first 11 he never knew about it but i'm sure he's counting them now.

i've been lucky enough to have several:

1) my first 300 game( i had tried so hard ).

2) my first 800 series( had to have the first two in the 10th frame ).

3) when my partner and i broke our associations scratch doubles record.

4) when i shot 847( 289-289-269 ).

5) qualifying 5th in a pba regional tournament and cashing.

When I shot 289 in a scratch tournament and all of the "click" or the "in crowd" bowlers hated it. A few years later I shot 299 in a scratch tournament and some of those same bowlers were there and they still hated it.

I don't know if this is my best moment, but it's probably the most unique bowling night.

Last fall while bowling against a friend in our scratch league we both shot a 300 on the same game. The only time I can think of where I bowled 300 and didn't win my point because I had to split it.

I was happy for him and myself because we did something we may never do again, not the perfect game, but to have one and not win without handicap involved.

One great shot I remember was a Greek Church conversion in league - that was really cool.

Another great moment was in a trio house league 2 years ago, when my team beat the house hacks (all premier league players, one of them even a national team player) through 4 games. A true red letter day, I will never forget those sour faces...

Mine would probably considered more luck than "great bowling."  In a college tournament, I picked up the 7-10 in the tenth frame of the last game and struck for the fill ball and won the tournament by 5 pins.  I didn't realize I had won because I never figured to pick it up and didn't check to see what I needed to win after I did pick it up.

About 10 years ago I was bowling the team event at the Lebanon Dutchman and our entire 5 person team opened with the front 7.  35 strikes in a row.  The entire bowling alley stopped to watch us.  It was like being on a PBA telecast simply unreal.  I was the anchor bowler and I remember feeling so much pressure to continue the string.  Finally, our 3rd bowler left a slammin' 7-pin.  It was a dead flush shot and the 4 pin just flew right around the 7.  I think I shot 258 and was third high on the team for the game.

My first 300 was also memorable, because I was bowling in a scratch singles league with my dad on the same pair. The 12th shot was absolutely perfect off my hand, and the old man ran out on the approach to give me a big hug.

The best moment for me was, watching my son bowl for his first singles title (in a junior scratch event). It was the 8th frame in a close match and my son throws a ball that struck and started running toward me. When he got to me he was holding his thumb and his whole callus what hanging off his thumb and was bleeding. I had never seen such a mess in my life (bowling 40+ years). Not know what to do I applied pressure with a towel which did not stop the bleeding. The tournament official came as said he was going to call a forfeit. I asked for a 10 minute break and the opponent agreed. I got super glue and glue the entire callus back onto his thumb. The bleeding stopped. The match restarted and the left hander went strike and 9 and missed the spare. Which gave my son enough room to lock up the match. Playing the lanes lofting the left channel, my son through 4 strike high flush like a professional would have... focusing on execution... a STANDING OVATION from the crowed... he ran back to me and I said "That was the most incredible bowling I have ever seen" and we both had tears running down our face. THAT WAS AWESOME.

The second was my first 300 in 1977 bowling against Jimmy Carter (Don Carters son). I throw 3 great shots in the 10th, the whole bowling center was behind lanes 69/70 and I knew it the whole time. At least 50 people ran up on the approach to congratulate me. After the night was over, Jimmy called Don who walked in the center and both of them congratulated me. Jimmy asked how many that was and I said it was my first. He said that I looked so cool in the 10th we would have guessed it was my 10th. They offered to buy me a drink and I said that I was only 17... they laughed. I remember that my knees were physically shaking and I could hardly breath. LOL.. now some 100 300 games later (sanctioned and non sanctioned together) I do not even realize half the time that I have the front string and never get bothered it anymore.

For me it has to be the 300 I threw on the Scorpion in the last game of a regional a couple of weeks ago.  Too bad I had 4 retarded games that day that kept me from making it to Sunday.

Other than that, it would have to be a 300 I shot back in 2000 a week after a 6-month deployment, my first.
