Its true that every new performance ball that comes out, regardless of who its made by, carries along with it those 'magic','brainwashing' promotional marketing words of "biggest backend ever", "most hookingest piece to date", or "Highest Ra values ever for unparalleled hook and carry", you get the drift. I've been around the sport longer than some, less than others, and this question is for the CUSTOMERS who've bought and used a bunch of equipment over the years. NO STAFFERS OR PROMOTIONAL 'YES' PEOPLE are required on this one. - Besides pocket angle of entry and all the obvious lane physics, what separates a ball from 'Hitting like a Tank' or 'Hitting like a pillow'? And what are a couple of your favorites when talking about overall hit and carry.
My two that I've thrown are the Cell Pearl and an old Lane 1 Cherry C/2.

My reply to this is that a ball that my opponents comment constantly state, "I can't believe, that shot carried", was a Lane Masters Hornet.
My personal opinion is the hornet and the original mission.

Hammer Sledge Hammer, Tremendous mix, slam, and kick out! I was told a lot of TORQUE! On the days it was right....lots of noise plus it owned 3 parts of the pocket! This doesn't even count my incredible No Mercy BeatN ball which doesn't make the noise but can carry from anywhere on a TopHat and DRIVES!
Ebonite Xcel Pearl never used it much but explosive sound and carry.
Tropic storm pearl. This little pill makes my ball look like a 2 handers thru the pocket!

My vote goes to the original "Crush/R". This ball had a soft outer core underneath the cover that you could indent with your thumb nail. It kept the pins really low and the "carry" was fantastic. They had a problem with inner core separation and stopped manufacturing.

Train a child up in the way they should go and when they are old they will do some "Damn Good Bowling", be a "DV8" and not turn from it, besides bowling starts with a Big B!

Red Zone has always been pretty money for me, but my favorite before it cracked was definitely my ebonite V2 Sweet, I got two; both cracked lol.. one was dead, one was like 30 games old but left it in car.. blah
but yeah the red zone is smooth and its like a mac truck it just moves and keeps going.

Here's a few of my all-time favorites
Power Machine - Best angular ball I've ever threw.
EPX-T1- This ball would carve through nearly any heavy oil it came across.
NVD- Lots of consistency, strong midlane and ton of carry.
505T- Very similar to the NVD but more bangs for your bucks.
Recon RX1 Silver- No light oil ball should roll or hit this good, but it does and does it very well.

For me, the Columbia 300 World Beater has the best carry. It is strong on oil with a smooth arc and great carry. The Storm Virtual Gravity Nano OOTB had the most hook, but I couldn't get it to carry. I had to over throw it (too much speed and too little hand) to get it to the pocket, then it wouldn't carry. After talking to a Storm rep, I polished it and while it still had a good sharp hook, it finally started to carry like advertised. The Columbia Outburst was the best OOTB ball for me. Shot a 300 a couple of weeks after buying it.

I agree that matching up is a big part of the equation, but here are a few that have been exceptional for me in years past, as well as present. You may note that although I am on Big B staff I am not afraid to mention other balls that were very good to me:
