Best pro shop in the reno area?
« on: August 23, 2017, 09:18:19 AM »
I'm going to reno on Saturday the 26th of august and was wondering what's the best place to buy a ball and have it drilled by a real professional ball driller.

Rudy at High Sierra would be my recommendation

Thanks Bob for the heads up.
I called the national  bowling stadium and they said they have a tournament going on this Saturday. I thought I would go by and check out the lane 81 pro shop. I've heard they have quite a selection of balls from all the manufacturers.

They do when the USBC tournaments are there as the manufacturers have booths. Otherwise, they have mostly Storm and Roto.

And the prices are higher than normal.

thanks for the heads up on the lane 81 shop. I really wanted to look at 900 global and motiv equipment.
Any info on where I can find this equipment in the reno area would be appreacated.

Good question, I can't recall seeing much of either at any of the local pro shops in Reno. I can only suggest you call the individual bowling alleys and ask for the pro shop.

There are three(that I know of) other than the stadium.
1) Grand Sierra, bowling alley is inside the Grand Sierra Casino/Resort. The pro shop space here is large, but when I was last there, the pro shop was a mess and seemed to be getting ready to shut down. Might have changed by now.

2) High Sierra Lanes, this one is on South Virginia across from the Peppermill Casino. Probably your best. If nothing else, the Pro Shop guy will probably be willing to order things for you.

3) Coconut Bowl in Sparks. I can't remember seeing a pro shop here, but they do have a lot of leagues, so it's probably there somewhere. The place is truly a birthday party palace though, so maybe not. They seem to have "glow bowling" 24 hours a day in some sections and the entire place has a coconut oil smell(on purpose I assume).

There is a newer pro shop operator in GSR and there is one at Coconut Bowl...along with High Sierra

Don't know if you will have a car on this trip, but if you do, and are willing to take a 30 minute drive, if you head down US-395, you do have Gold Dust West available for you in Carson City. There is a decently sized pro shop there, but it also does get busy with tournaments, especially when the SP tournament is there. But as milo mentioned, Coconut, Grand Sierra, and High Sierra are going to be your best bets, outside of the stadium.

I would like to thank all that responded to this thread.
I called around the many different bowling centers and found what I was looking for at gold dust west in Carson city. Roger koplin  was very helpful  and seems to be very knowledgeable.
Thanks again for your help.
