Best Reactive Heavier oil ball
« on: August 27, 2004, 09:14:53 AM »
Hello everyone, There have been allot of stronger reactive balls released lately. I am looking at getting a new ball for heavier mediums as I very seldom see a flood. I am wanting to stay reactive as I haven't had much luck with dull particle balls. I know allot of you guys get the chance to throw allot of the new stuff and compare it so wanted to get your opinions. Some of the ones I was considering were the ultimate, rule, anomaly, or thing lives, but if you have other suggestions let me know.

Thanks, cooksey

For medium heavy (not heavy): Diesel reactive pearl

Well, I've thrown the Ultimate and the Anomaly, so I can give you a bit of feedback there. I didn't throw the Ultimate very much, but it was fairly impressive on heavy juice. If you're only looking for heavier mediums, put some polish on that one. If you don't, it rolls as soon as it touches the lane. I still have a polished Anomaly that I throw on heavier mediums. With that coverstock prep, that ball is awesome! It clears the heads with ease but the solid cover really digs in down the lane. I've seen them thrown dull, and they seem to react pretty well on heavier patterns in that condition as well. Here are some others you might want to consider:

Lane 1 Uranium Solid--Mine arrives Tuesday, will let you know more then.
Lane 1 Black Cherry Bomb
Track-Animal Untamed
Ebonite-Killer Instinct Sanded
Ebonte-V2 Sanded
Visionary-Charcoal Executioner

I'm sure other folks will chime in with others, but all of these choices, if prepped properly, should be more than adequate for the conditions you're talking about. Good luck.

It's interesting that you bring this topic up. I've been bowling on the longer PBA patterns in our summer league, and in the process, I've put every heavy heavy and heavy/medium oil ball I have to the test. The following is the relative order of effectiveness:

1) Ebonite Savage Sanded (Reactive)
2) Ebonite Jungle Green (Particle)
3) Columbia WOW (Particle)
4) Columbia WOW Pearl (Particle/Pearl)
5) Storm X-Factor Deuce (Reactive)

I was really suprised that Savage turned out to be my 'go to' ball, but it handles the goo with best of them. If you're interested, they don't make the Savage anymore, but they have the Show Time Sanded which seems to have the same core/cover combination.

The currently available resin solids that will handle medium-heavy to (almost) heavy oil the best, in my opinion, are

Brunswick Ultimate Inferno
DynoThane Anomaly
Columbia Bully
Track Rule
Lane#1 solid Uranium (so close to the Ultimate Inferno)
Storm Triple Xtreme

There may be others, newer ones where the final reports are not yet in or one or two I may have forgotten.

A half notch below these in oil handling capacity are balls like
Columbia Shock
Brunswick Nemesis
Ebonite Showtime Sanded
Roto-Grip Rush
Storm Super Charge
The above five are still very strong balls and should be considered.
