i dunno y i am asking ,but here goes nothing
« on: April 12, 2007, 12:47:40 PM »
I am down to four ,but i am not sold on any yet,but I am going to be bowling in a 2 ball summer league and hopefully between now and the end of summer i will figure out what to get without being miserably disappointed again.I am covered from light to med. What i need is something that will give me more consistency and dependablity in longer heavier patterns. I am considering, the fury, shift, tnv, and the oddessy. What i have now thats not fitting the bill is the no mercy. Its a good ball but its cracked and probably wont make it thru the season, plus i dont think its as strong as i can get. I need something that if i am practicing with my no mercy and getting to the pocket I can pick this ball up move 10 boards left and run thru the nose. I want a ball that if the oil is such that i have to play up 5 because the oil is so heavy that i will know it will make a move to the pocket. I want a ball that will give me the same look in heavier longer patterns that i get from my epic on lighter shorter patterns.I can generally play comfortably standing on 25 or 30 with my left foot and playing the area up and right of 15 from there. I want a ball that when my no mercy skids 60 feet to the 3 pin, I can pick it up and know it is going to give me those boards i was missing If there are any of you that have suggestions i am all eyes. Thanks for the help in advance.Med speed low rev bowler med track, more comfortable swinging than playing up the boards ,but if thats where the shot is thats where i play.

Well my friend there is your problem right there. On a longer heavier pattern, lack of revs=difficulty getting to the pocket no matter WHAT you use. My first suggestion would be try and learn to add revs. THEN try your No Mercy and see how it goes from there.

The above opinion is only half-right...

You DO NOT need revs to get to the pocket on a long and heavy shot.  You can make up for a lack of hand by repeating more accurate shots.  A stroker can use modern equipment, an outside line, and deadly accuracy to make up for his lack of "power."  However, you DO NOT swing the ball across the lane on a long and heavy shot, no matter how much hand you have.  Square up, don't give the ball too much away, and strike.  Learn to play outside of your comfort zone -- that's the only way to become a better bowler.  Out of the balls you mentioned, though, I would go with the Roto Grip Odyssey.  Low R.G., powerhouse asymmetrical core, with an ultra-aggressive cover = some major hook potential.  Shift and TNV are medium-heavy at best, and the Fury, although quite strong, does not make the amazing move the Odyssey makes.  Another option is to go with a strong drill on a Roto SD-73 Classic.  Can you say flare potential?  The incredible flare will give you some room on the lanes.  Some...

Hope this helps.

Right you don't need a lot of revs to get to the pocket...BUT revs DO help in getting better carry on a heavier/longer shot. Not saying he should start muscling the ball or try to be a cranker etc. but an extra 2-3 revs wouldn't hurt. Maybe slowing ball speed down instead of trying to add revs could help. As you said squaring up would also be helpful.
