best strong pearl
« on: February 22, 2012, 10:19:07 PM »
There is a new house opening in my town (FINALLY) and went and bowled there and realized I own nothing strong enough in the back.

I have everything drilled to be really smooth for the Sahara dessert that other local houses are.

Currently im throwing a mission and a mission 2.0. Both drilled rather weak to tame the backend down some.

So im looking for a pearl that I can open the lane up with.

Also I havent paid any attention for the last year of bowling balls that have been released since I havent been bowling.

I'm sure many will recommend something along the lines of a Nano Pearl or a Nexus Pearl.  There is also the Roto Grip Critical Theory and the Hammer Blue/Silver Taboo.  But don't limit yourself to pearls.  There are many newer solids that can give you the desired reaction you are looking for.

Once again, depending on your statistics, you may be able to expand your choices.

Hate to answer your question with a question, but when you say "I have nothing strong on the back"....what is the ball not doing?  If it's not finishing on the backend opening the lane up might not be the best plan of attack.  In that case something with more "teeth" might be optimal.  If you need to open the lanes up then give us an idea of what you have now, and how you throw the ball so we can know what direction to point you.

I would post a video but im bowling nowhere near the same anymore.

Working on smoothing my approach out.

I have looked at the Hammer taboo blue and silver and the signals. Wish I would have got in on the taboo blue and silver and taboo spare package a few months ago.

If you want a pearl ball that will give you a good read of the lane and be able to cover some board I would suggest a Columbia Omen, will be able to handle oil, but also give you a good consistant role.

The best way I can find to describe the balls motion on the backend right now is that it isnt really hooking on the back end its more of just a move. I have tried both my mission and 2.0 shinny and dull. Neither produced a desirable reaction.

It doesnt really look like its rolling out it just seems that the drilling that I have on the ball is limiting the balls motion.

I hate to base everything I do on what other people are doing, but I bowled with 6 other people yesterday and 2 of us had about the same ball reaction. Both of us were using what we have set up for the other houses around. The others we were bowling with had much better reactions using pearls. What they were using was able to store more energy for the backend and produced a much better and consistent reaction.

Maybe it isnt a "strong" pearl that I need. But I definitely need something. Maybe with a totally different approach to the drilling this time.

You need to know what you are playing on. A "strong" pearl like DV8's Hell Raiser needs good oil up front - such pieces are utterly strong and have lots of traction. IMHO, even with a weak layout you won't be happy, because the ball burns up early. If you play on less head volume and/or with much traffic on the lane, you will need something less aggressive/responsive - or find it much more useful. It is just a generic suggestion, but I'd consider Brunswick's Karmas as a valid option as well as Seismic's Solaris Blackout or a DV8 Misfit. Esp. the latter offer great value (and hook) for the money.

The Storm Anarchy is one of the strongest pearls I've ever encountered and they have benn moving on and off the closeout list at my local distributor. I would watch for one of those moving cheap in the near future,

I LOVE my Critical Theory for heavy oil. It simply CRUSHES the pocket on tighter lines. I step down to my Anarchy next. This is MY preference. I have not used the other balls listed above.

The most consistently sharp, strong pearl I've seen is the Critical Theory.

Strongest pearl ball I've seen is the Maxxx Curve. I haven't found any oil yet that it won't cut down.
