Best Support to Fix Release / Hand Position
« on: November 09, 2015, 08:51:44 PM »
I have been bowling for 20 years and all the sudden this year I feel clueless.  Last year i averaged 220 in my league and this year after 11 weeks I think i only had a couple games over 220.  My average has dropped below 190.  I can't get my hand out of the ball right I have watched numerous videos and read several articles with out much success.   I have never used any type of aid before,  but i think i need to try something at least till i get retained.  I am a low rev bowler with medium ball speed and normally play down and in. I am wondering if you guys have any recommendations.  I was thinking of the moongoose lifter,  but not sure.

Thanks

Finally someone I can relate to. I have experienced the same thing. End Of January 2009, my average in the one league I was bowling was sitting at 219........I finished that season at 196. My problem was more not being able to handle much different conditions after the center was sold twice that season than anything else though--a 219 game was a rare event after that.  Anyways back to point, if you are looking for something that promotes a better roll on the ball..ebay still has a few of the old cobra wrist supports from the late 80's early 90's brand new..those were designed to ensure a 3/4 roll on your shot..I wore one back then which helped change me from my full roller at the time. That might help.

I am not a fan of wrist bans, but have used them to correct myself if I have developed a change in my release. I would recommend something on the lines of a mongoose or a Robby's Cool Max with the palm metal removed. If you are having release issues, have you had you span checked recently? They recommend every 2-3 years to recheck. As a shop owner, I recheck my each year and I have found that about every two years I am making small adjustments. I usually will check when it feels that I am not getting a clean release. The older we get, the less flexibility we have and changes are required. Has your timing changed and youunaware and need to get back in sync?

+ on having the span rechecked.

If my release gets inconsistent I throw my Master Wristmaster2 on and after a couple of sessions, it gets back to normal. Then I take it off and use it whenever needed. If im bowling long tourneys, I use it.

Sounds like me also. Six years ago was averaging 20? in 2 different houses. Gone down every year since then. Did a video of myself the other day and found about 6 things I need to fix.

You say you cant get out of the ball right.  You need to try to figure out what it feels like.  Are you hanging in the thumb, losing it off your hand, over turning.  You need to figure out what is wrong before you can figure out how to fix it.  I don't see any type of wrist band being of benefit until you figure out more specifically what problem you are trying to fix.

I have been struggling with my release lately.Usually I wear a Robby's Plus. I've had a Storm Xtra Roll that I hadn't used yet. Tried it when I practiced today and noticed that it did improve my release and revs. I have tried other devices such as the Storm Gizmo and Brunswick Power Coil but just don't like the way they feel.
