Board-ers,

My Thursday night team has a running joke.  Our 3rd highest guy (avg. 200 even) is the only one on the team with a 300.

I am high at 212, next is 207.  We, and the teams close to us, make fun of us as the "Mickelson's", or the best guys in the league that never got the big one.  That all changed when Phil won the Masters in his great year on tour.

What is the highest average you guys out there know of that doesn't have a perfecto?  Are you that person?

I bowl with a guy that has five 800s,...but no 300s. Plenty of 299s,298s,..
but no 300s......

I bowl with a guy that usually carries a 210-220 average who has one 300 game, and it was in practice (he subbed for our team right afterwards and shot 150 the first game).  He's got probably a half dozen 299s and dozens of 279s in sanctioned play.  I've seen him shoot 299 and when that fscking 8 pin or 10 pin stands, it's like the wind knocked right out of him.

I avg. over 220 for 3 years before I had my first 300 in sanctioned
league.  I had 7 in practice before I ever got my first one in sanctioned
competition.  It wasn't like I would choke either.  I just never had the first 7 or more.  I would always have a 9 spare somewhere early in the games.  The first time I got the front 7 in sanctioned league I finished it for 300.  I was the only one on the 5 man team that had not rolled one at some time in there bowling career and I out avg. all of them by more then 10 pins each year.  It was very frustrating.  I always told everyone that once I got my first one I would throw several.  I was right.

That would be me. I'm currently averaging 225 in my Monday night league (54 games) and I do not have a 300 in the books as of yet. This year alone I've had a 299 and 298 in that league, but no 300- and 789 has been my highest series in that league.

My Dad - he consistently averaged 205 back in the 1960's and 1970's.  He even tossed an 853, without a 300, again, back in the 1960's.

A 300 is not an indication of talent or lack thereof.

Old teammates averaged 215ish. He has a 296 and a 299 (easily his best ball to end a string). He had the front 10 and left a 3-6-10. He just gets tight in that situation.
