Best type of motion/ball on a THS
« on: January 01, 2015, 11:14:47 PM »
I know this is subject to opinion, but while trying to remove opinion as much as possible, is there a type of motion or ball that is generally better on your every day ths? I mean in terms of smooth and controllable, hard arc, and skid flip for types of motion and asymmetric cored balls vs symmetrical, core strength and cover strength, ball finish for type of ball. I know that there is no one thing that is always best, I am just curious what would be best to chose if a person went to a new house with no info and could only take one ball. Theoretically of course. And if it helps, this is assuming average revs and speed.

It depends on lane surface, length of conditioner, build up side to side, cleanliness of lane vs amt of bowlers, how bowlers attack condition and how the individual sees the lane and chooses to attack condition - friction vs conditioner

Considering you walk in "blind," I would say IQ Tour Solid or Venom Shock. Those are 2 balls that can be thrown on almost anything.

A good benchmark ball is what I want if I go in not knowing the shot.  Something that is going to be predictable and controllable.  Balls like the Sigma Sting, Venom Shock, IQ Tour Solid, and the Melee Cross are all pretty good options in this case.

Great response in that most will suggest equipment that they like but Ric addressed the situation in a complete concise manner leaving out equipment.

going in blind to a house shot all i would need is a blue vibe and a cherry vibe. medium RG medium diff. i prefer solids to pearls or balls that go too side ways downlane because they tend to flip too hard for me causing me to circle the lane which is just unneccassary

My answer...... "whatever works" lol

I have no clue!

some days it's the ball with more finger weight, then some days it's the ball with more thumb weight. ;)

After watching and studying the BEST local and Pro bowlers on various conditions, I find that heavy forward roll seems to be a common denominator with these higher average bowlers. It seems to be more consistent on all types of lane conditions as opposed to the skid/flip reaction.

If someone can show me a device that would assure this release I would appreciate it very much.
Thank You

Watch what others are using.
See where they are playing.
Watch who is striking.
Make your adjustments from that.

So, what I am taking from this is that there is no perfect solution, which is what I was expecting the answer to be, but if one does not know what to expect, the first ball out of the bag should be something controllable and mid strength? When does a person know to switch to something a little more angular instead of controllable? Oh, and stay behind the ball of course :P

Here is the thing people don't understand about house shots.  The thing that makes them easy is not the margin of error, but the ability to attack them successfully with so many different styles and roll patterns.  Therefore the answer to your original question is that almost any type of roll will yield high scores  if you can repeat the shot with accuracy.

If you throw a low track spinner or are a low rev guy you just need to get to the dry earlier to get a good reaction.  If you have a lot of hand and need the oil you just move a little deeper and catch the oil later.  Sounds simple, but what makes flat patterns tougher is that you cannot control how soon or late the ball comes off the end of the oil
