Best way to destroy old bowling balls....
« on: July 03, 2010, 05:00:27 AM »
I have quite a few old junk and cracked bowling balls my alley has gave to me over some time... describe to me what would be your favorite way to destroy or get rid of bowling balls. we have thrown them down hilly streets, off building, but are running out of thoughts... if any one could help me it would be much appreciated! thanks to all!

I strongly recommend not blowing them up, went well for the first couple but had a bad experience with the last one and am fortunate no one got hurt, its still fun to joke about but man are those things unpredictable.

I've heard of throwing them off bridges into water and also cutting them in half or quarters to put on display.

If you have a lot of money, on the show Pawn Shop, they had a guy who builds and sells bowling ball mortars.  That would be a neat way to destroy them.

Resurface them and donate them to high school kids. Unless you're in an area like NJ where every kid has more new balls than a PBA staffer, many kids can't afford new balls. If the balls are still usable, donate them!

I put cracked ones directly into the garbage pail for weekly pickup.

My wife bought a magazine at Lowe's that had old bowling balls decorated as "lady bugs" and "bumble bees", for lawn ornaments that looked really cool and of course she started looking around the shop to see what she could use!

There is one center that was almost two stories(maybe one and a half) that we would drop the old bowling balls from. It was about 20 feet down onto concrete parking blocks below. It would shatter when it hit the concrete. If it missed and hit the asphalt it would bounce for days.

You dropped it 20 feet down and it shattered? I beg the differ. I threw one out of a moving car at 50 mph it hit the ground bounced real high and went into the woods (purposely did it on a dead end so it wouldn't hit anyone or anything). Went in got the ball and it only had a hairline crack that spanned less than half the ball from the thumb hole.

Put the ball in an oven and turn up the temperature really high, then take a bucket of cold water and drop the warm ball in it. The ball should crack
