Bevel control
« on: January 05, 2015, 10:24:24 AM »
I recently drilled a couple new slugs.  I use the IT system and was still using the original slugs I drilled 3 years ago, but after several times of freshening up the hole to get rid of dirt or tack, I'd just beaten them up quite a bit.  I like a pretty tight thumbhole, but usually only use 1-3 pieces of tape to adjust with.  I decided to go a bit size bigger and add more tape, and I also went with even less bevel than usual, though I normally don't have much to begin with.  The difference is pretty amazing.  I can get the thumbhole tighter where I want it while still being able to release the ball cleaner, plus the edge of the bevel keeps my thumb straighter up and down and makes it easier to keep my thumb straight while still having a good solid hold on the ball.  What I had thought recently to be mechanical issues seem at the moment to just be the result of over-beveled thumbholes allowing me too much wiggle room at the top of the hole.  My release has already significantly improved, along with my ball roll and accuracy.  Plus it's much more comfortable than I think you would realize.  I bowled an 8 game sweeper last week with the new slugs and my thumb was in great shape afterwards.  Didn't swell a bit or have any kind of redness or rubbing, in fact I couldn't really tell I bowled at all.
