Big turn off
« on: June 15, 2008, 01:30:05 AM »
Yesterday I went to my proshop to buy a hammer bowling ball. Instead of asking me what ball by hammer you like to purchase. The person there said to me, why you want hammer. That instant I got so mad I just left out. I have been bowling for at least 15 years. I had purchase almost all the different brand of bowling balls. He also said to me , get Columbia balls. I told him if you look in my history of files you would see I have had alot of columbia ball. I never thrown hammer and recently I like what I see in hammer for my game. I have the hammer anger ready to be drilled up and I wanted the Psycho to go along with it.To make a long story short. I called out to the proshop in Crofton MD and they said they will be glad to serve all my bowling needs. This is what i like. Serving the customer. If I want columbia I would have asked for it. The guys at crofton also want me to rent a lane and he can watch me throw a few shots. And help me with my layout I want. I heard these guys are good. I guess I will have a new shop to go too.

Melvinbruns,

You language is a bit choppy, but your meaning is completely clear.  The guy at the first shop is either a big columbia guy, or maybe he makes more profit on columbia stuff.  Maybe he even has lots of columbia stuff in stock and would have had to order the hammer.  In any case, he should have tried to match the needs and desires of the customer, Not try to change their minds.

Good to hear you may have found a shop that is run by someone who actually cares about your style and wants to drill what you want in the best way he can for you.

Good luck with your hammer, especially the Raw hammer line.  Those have been some of the best balls for the money recently.

I'm not sure if your anger was 100% appropriate, but I understand why you felt that way.

I think the first words out of his mouth should have been something of a nature like, "May I ask why you specifically want a Hammer ball?", if he had any qualms about selling you one.

Can't see why you got upset.  The guy was just trying to understand what makes hammer your ball of choice.  He also might have thought that he could learn something from you about the brand based on your style and lane conditions you bowl on.  Selling you the best ball for your game and lane conditions may be what he was after.  I totally understand that if hammer is what you want, then you should buy hammer, but learning about other equipment is just part of the buying process.  Remember, there are no bad balls, just bad bowlers.

with all fairness. this guy was new. i have delt with the other drllers there for years. i go in my proshop and tell them how i want the ball drilled. they even said i make there job easy. only time i don.t like a layout of a ball. then i go back and have the surface adjusted. i probably go back and deal with the older guys that know me and know what i like. i just was kind of in a foul mood and iwill go back and apoligized to the young guy. i have been going there for a long time.  i am usually a calm and quiet person. i will not break my relationship with the shop.

Melvinbruns, You will like dealing with Mike and Lee at Crofton. They have done my stuff for years. If you ever get the time you should also check out the Proshop at Ft. Meade lanes. Just have your drivers license and registration ready at the gate. The MP's check your car (under the hood and in the trunk). Only takes 5 min. and your on your way.Greenway bowl is also a good place and only one exit before Ft. Meade off route 32.

Hey Melvinbruns,

I can relate, some pro shops push only a few company's balls and shy away from what they do not want to sell.

When I lived in the area I used to go to the pro shop in Crofton, MD all the time.  Mike and Lee are top notch guys and you will be satisfied with them.  Good luck!
