Title: Biggest series collapse?
Post by: MSC2471 on March 07, 2005, 08:18:28 PM
Last night in league I unfortunately witnessed a huge series collapse from our leadoff bowler. In each of the first two games he started with a washout which he made. The first game he proceeded to reel off 9 strikes in a row before leaving a 7 pin for a 279- the second game he had a 6 bagger, left a 7 pin, then had another double before leaving another 7 pin which he missed for a 257. The final game the shot really broke down for him, shots started going high, and he missed an easy spare in the middle- finishing with a 159 and a 695 series.

What types of series collapses have you either been a part of or witnessed in your lifetime? I did the same thing in the mid 90's in one of my Sunday night mixed leagues. For the first 18 frames I had shot 269 and was on my way to shooting another mid 250 game- but then I went brain dead and failed to shoot 700, I think posting a 680 series.

A teammate of mine had a great collapse.  He makes averaging 225 on soup look like a THS.  He has the easiest motion and revs the ball like mad, while controlling it like it is on a string.  Just awesome to watch!!!

Anyway, last spring, in week 34 of 36 in our Triples League, with our team perched on clinching the whole kit and kaboodle with a whole 2 weeks to go, he comes out on fire with back-to-back 300's.  Absolute no-doubters!!!!  Then 4-9, 4-9, stone 9, 7-10, 4-9, 9-10 (yes, 9-10), dutch sheet to go 154-ish for a 754 series.

He will never live that one down.

I suppose this is the opposite of a collapse, but I shot 125-237-200 last Sunday morning.  Guess you could call it a series boost.

Missed all of practice (was at the bowling alley and got asked to sub when someone didn't show up) First shot I left a 4-pin, then a couple shaky strikes later I start throwing bombs... Finish off with a nice 290 game. Next game I keep it going shot holds up as does carry...and me, I can't miss. One by one frames are going by, and before you know it I have the front 9. Everybody is standing behind me watching which kinda made me nervous as I don't really bowl too many leagues anymore where a 300 is a big deal, but I bear down and make 3 perfect shots for 300.

And now for "THE REST OF THE STORY"
"I'm on fire" I was thinking and as I began the next game with my 24th in a row...my girlfriend was talking to a friend of hers, and I heard her say "Oh yeah, all he needs is 210 for 800...he can do that with his eyes closed". Next frame, good shot 4-9 split. Next frame 10 pin...Whiff! Make an adjustment on the 4-9...8-10. I did strike out in the tenth to somewhat salvage a good set for 172, and 762 series, but sometimes I when I am mad at her to this day, I can still her saying that in my head. She wonders why I don't want to get married...lol.

Sweet

Sometime in the mid 80's, I was playing on a walled up, short oil shot.  I shot 297, 279 and started the last game with the first 5 and didn't shoot 800.  I was playing the first or second board and tossed it in the ditch.  It was our last night of league and everyone was having a good time.....at my expense

I think this happens to just about everyone, but to varying degrees!

- I've seen a 600 series without a 200 game (300 first game).
- Last week one of my team-mates goes 263-300-198.  But it was his first sanctioned 300 and once he got tapped he lost his confidence / mental game
- Few weeks ago another guy in my league goes 300-268-191.  Had the whole lane and a great ball reaction, but couldn't keep his mind in the shots after he started leaving ringing 10's.  Just didn't make the right adjustment and after he flagged one in the 3rd game it was all down hill.  The next shot he said his thumb stuck (5 count - faced headpin) but it looked like he *really* hit up on the shot.

I know that I've lost the shot on various nights / games too...but that's why 800's are so hard to hit.

Chris,

Agreed.  Last night went 135-256-233.  Could hit the blind side of a barn the first game..had a beer, settled down and the lanes played to me..then couldn't miss.  The 233 was with a hole otherwise it would have been back to back 250's...623 total..

Just thought of almost worst collapse I have ever seen.  This one goes back to when Black Rages were the ball to have.  One of my friends was on an absolute tare one year.  One night he goes 300-300 to start...he then went from 3 -or- 4 and he BARELY shot 800!!!  He actually trip'd out a 4-9 late in the game that saved him.  If he didn't shoot an 8 after that start we would still be raggin' on him!

I never had a series collapse but I have had a series
gain.
I was using my brand new Intense Inferno. Couldn't find
a line and shot a 160. Found a line and then shot 225
then in the third game had front 9 and left the 5-10.
Only got the 5 for a 266. So it went like:
160,225,266
Increased by 106 pins in that series. Shot a 651. Only
needed a 209 the first game for a 700.

I don't know if I'd call it a collapse, but a few years ago I went 125,258,126.  My team (and most of the league) harassed me for the rest of the season about my 2 games being lower than my middle game.

guy on our team shot 300, 289, and didn't make 8....  after that start, it was a pretty big collapse!  And of course... we never remind him about it.

Last night a guy in my league shot 125-300-(something under 175).  I wasn't around long enough to finish watching his 3rd game.  He was using an Ultimate Inferno and lofting the ball out past the arrows.  It was sickening to watch.  I guess I am bitter; never punched 300 and then this guy does it right after a 125?!  Go figure.

It was i think like 5 weeks ago or mayb even longer we bowl 4 games over 4 different pairs but some times its the same pair for even 2 or 3 games
i started on 15-16 shooting a low 194 with a foul on the fill shot then i go to 19-20 and shoot 279 then stay on the same pair and shoot 184.  Finally i go back to the starting pair and shoot 279 talk about inconsistant.
