A ball that you reeeeally want to work, but doesn't?
« on: December 30, 2004, 05:52:13 AM »
I remember when the Dyno-thane Element first came out.  I drilled one and at first it was a great ball, but it hooked too early.  Then I polished it and it would jerk on the backend uncontrollably.

I kept playing with it, I wanted this ball to work.

I ended up drilling 4 different ones.  And didn't keep any of them.  I liked its core, cover and everything about it.  But for some reason the ball didn't work for me.

You ever have a ball you wanted to work, but it never did for you?

Mine is the Intense Inferno. I'm on my 3rd redrill. When I got it, I had read that the recommended drill was pin under ring finger, but having really slow ball speed, I thought I would be O.K. with my usual pin above.  I couldn't carry--I'd leave a 10-pin, adjust and leave a 7-pin.  Had I been bowling 9-pin no-tap, I would have had several 300's.  So, I thought, maybe they were right and I had it re-drilled pin under ring finger.  It hit like a marshmallow. So, it's back getting redrilled, 3 3/8 x 3 3/8.  Usually, if I don't get along well with a ball, I just give it to my husband, but I really want this one to work.

Depth Charge.  Just too mild with a mild drill.  Fluffy hit.  I REALLY wanted the ball to work, since I loved the Eraser PBT.

AMF ... Nighthawk Torque, first particle ball i hated.

AZO ... Drastic Carbide, weak ball that was supposed to be a hooking ball.

BRUNSWICK .... Inferno, hated the reaction, multiple surface changes and it never worked.

COLUMBIA ... Never really liked the Boss line.

EBONITE ... Threw the Wildcat in the test stage and when it was released it was not nearly the same ball.

FABALL ... Reaper 2, the straightest weakest light oil ball i ever threw.

HAMMER ... Diesel, never had enough oil anywhere to give it a good evaluation but it hooked out early, always.

LANE 1 ... Uranium solid, YUCK.

MORICH ... Minotaur.

STORM .... Trauma Recovery, never matched up well.

That's enough for today.

Lanemasters extreme Impact - Loved the color of the ball... the American Flag insert...  even the description of the ball from their site... but I just couldn't get the ball to work.  It seemed to have a super strong core and a super weak cover...  The ball would flare a ton, but just never move.  On the right conditions (clean backends) the ball would really jump..but as soon as any carry down would show up... it was over/under city.  I played with just about every surface imaginable..but never found anything to match up well..

the Apex Intensity also gave me fits!

Killer Instinct Pearl . . . . brought one of these at the same time as my sanded version, to have something to switch down to on heavier oil....but it seems not to do anything, or too much on dry, and I ended up getting an x-factor as well.

Lane 1 - Blueberry - was a fair ball but carry was poor for me.
Brunswick - Power Groove reactive - this ball is in my current bag, I hate it because I shoot 700 or 500 with it even with quite a bit of adjustment. Still fun to play with though
Columbia - Cuda solid - clanged corners forever but had best set ever in a high-low night using it 826.(unsanctioned)
Roto Grip - Silver Streak particle - never found carry and didn't give me the hook i wanted from it. Roto's are weird for me as i have to alter my release to get them to finish well. (3 different balls)

MoRich balls never have reacted the same way twice for me especially the mayhem which at best would be a boat anchor. This line of balls has been very frustrating as i really wanted them to work . I would not buy another unless the right deal comes along.

Dynothane Thing.  Doesn't want to hook in much oil, rolls out on any dry.  Only shot that it has been productive is way outside up the 4 or 5 with mild backends.
