TV Broadcast Question
« on: July 04, 2009, 04:13:49 AM »
I am sure there is an obvious answer to this but I sure don't understand it.

Why cannot the broadcasters mention which ball the bowlers are using? There seems to be so many threads on BR.com about which ball so and so was using. Same on golf broadcasts, they obviously cannot mention which clubs a golfer is using.

I suppose it would be considered some form of advertising if brands were mentioned but the participants are allowed to wear emblems on their shirts advertising their sponsors!

And, we can go on the Internet and find out what they were throwing.

What is the rule on this?

Broadcasters will never do that. bowling ball makers are for profit companies, AS ARE BROADCASTERS. The broadcasters aren't going to do for free what they can make someone pay for.

If they want to be mentioned, they either need to pay to sponsor the tournament and be prominently displayed, or buy advertising time.

Also, if broadcasters mentioned a certain type of equipment, but not another, it might be viewed as partial and unfair, opening them up for lawsuits by the "offended" companies.

Whats free about it?  Every ball manufacturer pays A LOT of money to be used on the PBA... the least the PBA could do is do a section on the show telling the viewers what each bowlers is using, what way they are layed out, and why the bowlers are using that ball..
