I've noticed for about 15 games now that my Sync (maybe 90 games total) doesn't have quite its' original reaction; still strong, but not the animal it was to start. So I decided to bring it home and put it into some cat liter for a couple of days (temps around 90 here). I think I was right about needing to bleed it - while it sat in the car while I was buying cat litter it just started oozing oil. My question is, has anyone else used the cat litter treatment? Did it work?

What you describe is similar to Ebonite's original Hook Again process, and it does work. However, I have found that the hot water bath with Dawn dishwashing liquid works better.

Sand it to 360 grit before you sweat it, if you really want to do it right and bring it back to OOB afterwards.

I would recommend not using dawn dish soap. Dawn is a oil based cleaner and the object is to get oil out of the ball putting the ball in hot water and dawn will put as much in it as you take out.

Just don't use soap... As a detergent/emulsifier it may combine with components of lane conditioner and create a larger "blob" that won't be removed as easily as the lane conditioner alone.
Preferred method is to keep a microfiber towel and effective ball cleaner next to the bucket of hot water. Remove the ball after approximately 10 minutes and spray with cleaner and wipe down with towel.
Repeat process with fresh hot water as needed... My general rule of thumb is to replace the water if I can tolerate holding my hand in it for much longer than it takes to remove the ball.

Compounds can be effective. I use Motiv Scuff as an oil extraction compound, and have found it to work well. Per instructions, I let it sit on the ball until dry, and then wipe the dry residue off. Finish with a good cleaner. Kitty Litter might be a good alternative.
If a ball gets to the point of oozing oil, it probably needs a more extensive deoiling method. I'd recommend a ball oven set at a temp no greater than 135 degrees for safe results. I have my own personal oven, and it took five extraction cycles to completely deoil a friend's saturated ball. I don't think the hot water method would have been as effective.
