Bowling tape

Just read a reply to a post where a guy said he changes the amount of tape in his thumb hole often more than he changes with lane conditions.

This got me wondering, is there anyone else, or is it just me, who has never used tape?

I only ever get problems with thumb hole if my hand is cold, in which case the thumb hole does seem to be a bit loose causing me to let go early, but i find a couple of shots is enough to get the heat in my hand and make my thumb hole more comfortable.

I have been bowling for around 10 years now, and i have never felt the need to but tape in my thumb hole!

Is it just me??

I don't use tape.  If I stick a little I'll use Chap-Stick on the spot on my thumb where I'm sticking to help me get out of the ball cleanly (women have water-retention issues, and I'll leave it at that)

Chap-Stick for me works WAY better than Easy-Slide since I can control the amount I'm using and put in directly on the spot that's sticking (plus, Easy-Slide tends to get everywhere and then the thumbhole is TOO slick).

I have used black tape in the past, but the gunk from the tape inside the thumb slug isn't worth the hassle.

I had problems with my thumb swelling when i was younger, and i also used chap-stick, it is a lot easier to use than easy slide!

I dont seem to get that problem anymore, just as its rare i find my thumb hole to loose, not sure why

I could be wrong about this, but I think everyone's thumb expands and contracts, based on temperature and humidity.  My thumb also swells as I bowl.

Most people who say they don't need tape, don't need it because they are squeezing the ball to adjust for the fit of their thumb.  If you concentrate on keeping your thumbnail against the bottom of the thumbhole during your swing, with no pressure against the top of the hole, you will realize that you've been gripping the ball to hold on to it.

If you don't squeeze the ball, I don't see how you can bowl without tape.

I don't know whether you are joking or not, but it doesn't make any difference.

Just consider yourself blessed by whatever God(s) you believe in, that you do not have to do this, that you are not tortured by having to do this. This is a curse, having your fingers swell and shrink, as if by a freaking phase of the moon.

I am very thankfull that i dont need to play about with tape a lot, it would just be something else to distract me.

I dont know if i am subconciously gripping the ball a little or not, will see tommorow when i bowl, but thankfully i dont tend to have problems with my thumb coming out way to early, or even worse very late.

I have only been using thumb slugs in my stuff for the last 8 months, before that i used to have problems with my thumb catching a little on my release if i hadnt wamred up much.

either way, my bowling is steadily improving so im happy at the moment

Get the tape that you can put on your thumb instead of the thumb hole. I use tape in the thumb hole and it was a hassle to clean an to put it in correctly. I just put it on my thumb no residue and no hassles.

I tried the green Turbo tape called Hada and hated it. It rarely sticks to my thumb even after cleaning my thumb with denatured alcohol, the strong stuff. When it did stick, it stayed in place for maybe 18-22 frames. The  other problem was it was very thick. When my thumb is larger, the hole almost wasn't large enough.
Are the other tapes better?

I have used a medical tape called Hypafix, which stuck better for a long period of time. And it felt better too. STill it was a hassle to apply. Tape int he thumb hole was better. I used Hypafix more often,but eventually it got to be too much of an annoyance.
