For the past 6 months or so, theres been little like lines of blood under my middle finger nail. whenever i cut the nail, the blood sticks to it and there is almost a calus under it. what causes it? is it a pitch problem? also, my nail grows wavey, is that normal? and what should i do? i bowl probably 30 games a week including leagues. should i cut down? (i'm 15) or should i look into having my balls repitched?

The answer is simple, if you are experiencing pain or discomfort, then YES!!! If your fitted properly, then you should not have any problems as you speak of. It is far easier to find someone to take the time to see if your currentspecs are as accurate as they need to be. It may be so subtle that you can't seem to feel it, but is seems apparent that your fingers know it. Kep us posted as to the outcome, and I hope that I have shed even a little light for you.

as stupid as it sounds, wavy fingernails is from lack of milk, or calcium I believe. As for the blood, well....yes that sounds like a pitch problem. Most likely you need more forward/reverse pitch.

i keep my nails short (i bite them unfortunately), but lack of calcium would make sense in my case. I dont eat a lot of calcium rich stuff nor drink milk ever.

Give us some idea of what your finger pitches are now, if you use finger grips (and if so are they the type that add forward pitch), and how flexible your last finger joints are and we can do a better job with suggestions. -- JohnP

I have the same situation with my middle fingernail. No real pain, just a bruise-like coloration under the nail. My thumb also has the wavy look you describe.
I'll be talking to someone this weekend about pitch and layout.

If horse racing is the sport of kings, then surely bowling is a very good sport as well.

i think my pitch is either 0 or 1/8 (if that makes sence) but for surely i'll ask my proshop guru for the right answer. i love bowling, and i don't want to slow down lol. yes, the 'injury' if you want to call it that, came from bowling. going on vacation saturday, so it'll give it some time to heal (and lose my caluses???). as for the wavey nails, that pretty simple to fix, i'll drink some more milk and eat my wheaties from now on.
thanks a bunch dudes, i'll have my pitch posted by 4 PM (west coast time), but i have to be in bed by like 8 cause of the flight time. so please try to answer before i leave. thx.

I have had problems with broken blood vessels underneath my ring finger fingernail in the past. Ever since I had a ball drilled with the more relaxed Mo Pinel "claw grip" I have seen the dark spots under my fingernail nearly go away. Both of my spans were reduced by an 1/8" and pitches were changed as well. The last joint in that finger isn't very flexible, which likely contributed to the problem as well. Just thought I'd share. This grip style will not appeal to everyone, but it might do the trick.

Most problems like this are due to spans being too long not pitch issues.

Get to the pharmacy and get some Caltrate 600 + Vitamin D caplets (two a day, and they're horse-pill sized, but at least they're coated). At least you'll be getting some form of calcium in your system that way.
/mom mode off.

My guess is your span is to long. Could have the grips a little tight to.
