Blue 3 pattern help
« on: January 16, 2011, 10:55:59 AM »
I'm bowling the Detroit Masters this weekend & they are using this pattern on wood lanes.

What are your thoughts as far as lane play? ball choices? etc

Its 38 feet, seems to be low volume. And the house with old wood hooks quite a bit.

I'm a speed dominant, med revs lefty

 First time on this pattern

Practiced on one of the Blue patterns yesterday in a wood AMF house and it pretty much played like a normal house shot. May have been a little hang out around five on the fresh but after a couple of game it was pretty much play between 15 and 22 out to the track. It is going to depend on your speed, rev rate and ball you want to use. I ended up throwing a pin down Orbit and Orbit Ex 17 to 9 in what would have been games 4-8. On the fresh I used a Cell Pearl and Rico'd Illusion and Mission 15 to 7. All three got to the pocket but it seemed the Mission carried the best at the beginning with the Illusion being a little soft and the Pearl having to much entry angle.

Bowled the Phoenix senior masters this weekend on the blue.  It was an old anvil lane house, and the shot was very high scoring.  Played like a house shot moved in about 5 boards.  Could be a lot diffferent on wood though.

The Blue 3 pattern is a 3.5 - 1 ratio, almost a sport shot. Hooks a ton, was not even close to easy. No hold either

Maybe you guys were on the regular blue?? IDK

Heavy did you bowl the practice sessions they were offering the past couple weekends?  It's Astro so it will be hooking at some point.

I was on Blue 3 just the fact the the lane topograph on an old wood house (especially an old AMF house known to be dry) came thru the pattern after a couple of games. Like I said a little bit of hang outside on the fresh but once it started breaking down everything right of 12 burnt up and you just had to get in a little bit and throw it to  the dry. If I would have been on a newer wood surface or sythetic with less friction I would have bet outside of 5 would be no-mans land but this house just hooks and it doesn't matter what pattern is put out. You stated you were bowling on old wood so I would expect to play fairly straight on the fresh and try and control the break point, but after a few games it is going to open up and play alot like a regular THS. Being a lefty it may take an extra game or two to open it up but it is a very scoreable shot. The Texas State Master is on this pattern, we also had the Blue #1 and the Red #3 next to it for comparison. The Blue 3 had the most hang on the fresh, but after a couple of games you pretty much threw the same shot on all three.

Yeah I was there last Saturday. It was hooking so much. Probably could've used a natural. All my equipment is pretty aggressive & that wasn't helping. Had a better look with a Reign but even that was jumpy. Most of the house shots I bowl on are fairly tight

Truth is, I'm a house shot hack as you know Joe lol

I wanted to get there to practice but my son had city tournament yesterday and that consumed my entire afternoon. I figured they would be hooking so it's time to break out the old stuff and super smooth balls.  I can see the big wheel working well.  What squad are you bowling?  I'm bowling A see you there!

Left side is going to eat this pattern alive in that house. Roche and Wyatt are my picks from the right and I see a lot of urethane going down the lane. Then your going to have guys like Krefty, Lang, Norris all throwing it 15 to the gutter at the end of the pattern and blowing it up. Another shootout just because the pattern and the surface.

Last time we were at Astro, we were over the gutter starting B squad on the first day and at the left gutter by 3rd game on Sunday for first squad. Pattern's going to blow wide open and have ton's of free hook already in the pattern and then on that surface where the oil will be gone as it's getting sucked up by each ball that goes down the lane.

Another joke of what used to be a good tournament. Maybe Wiss will have the clown nose with him like he had when it was at Taylor.

Very interesting. Wyatt is automatic into match play. Lang already throws urethane like crazy, especially at Van Dyke.

I'm going to practice there again before Saturday. I found a couple old milder balls that I'm going to try.

I  didn't strike much there in practice last Saturday, not use to short patterns and that much hook
