Blue Pattern Advice
« on: January 27, 2011, 03:34:26 AM »
Going to a tournament this weekend that is using the Blue pattern, not sure if it is 1,2, or 3 but I am looking for some basic/general advice on how to play this pattern since i have never shot on any of the Red, White or Blue patterns. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Red, White and Blue patterns play almost like sport patterns, but not quite when it comes to making adjustments.  The adjustments you would make on sport, animal and tournament shot patterns cannot be made on the Red, White and Blue patterns from what I've learn.  You have to make your typically house shot adjustments when playing on the R/W/B patterns but your line has to also be direct or tight should I say.  The best way to attack these patterns are with a more direct line, a strong cover bowling ball to start and find out where you can play, and keep your ball speed under control.  If your a cranker and like to cover boards and try to play this shot like a house shot you will get in trouble fast due to the fact the oil patter is flat on the lane.  The Red is the driest pattern and blue is the heaviest oil pattern, and the type number I believe is how much oil volume is on the lane and how flat it can be from the inside boards to the outside.  The pattern is really not that tough, just keep your line tight, stay accurate, keep your ball speed under control and you should be fine.  Good Luck and Good Bowling !!!

FYI:   I bowl on R/W/B patterns every week on one of my three leagues and my high Game and Series was shot on the Blue 2 oil pattern at the end of last year with a storm invasion.

2010 is the first time joining a league since 1999. Over a 10 year lay off and I haven't lost much of my game.
