Is there any ball that you will not consider because of the name? I have a touch of arachnophobia and have killed several black widow spiders around my house. One would think that a ball called black widow would be a total turn off for me, but I am seriously considering the black widow gold with no reservations. One name that does totally turn me off is Pitbull Bite. Guess I have seen too many news stories about kids being mauled by pitbulls. It used to be a common occurrence in my area.

There's a Lord Field ball called the Blizzard that has a big snowflake on it as the logo.
It doesn't sit well with me.
-
to be fair I was never a fan of lane one to begin with; but several of their balls had names over the years that reinforced my ignoring of their existence. The one I remember is Agent Orange. something about naming a ball after a chemical weapon really irked me
-
Boo Yah?
What are they, 10 years old? Grow up, already.
Not criticizing the ball, just the name.
-
Nope, but I've avoided several because if the logo. Color is also a big factor in ball decision.
-
I don't really hate these names, but I avoided balls like "Bad Ass" and "Hell Raiser" to not offend anyone in my church league.
-
Not really. I like watching the guy bowl but I'm definitely not a fan of the Timeless and Drive having the Belmo logo.
-

So I bet the Lord Field Bloody Cross wouldn't have sat well...
I've never avoided a ball due to anything name based. I'm also not going to comment on the ignorance about the Pitbull comment. Pitbulls aren't bad dogs, not any more than any other dogs. The owners that treat them like weapons are to blame.

I'm not sure if they would actually be offended, I just play it safe sometimes

I think you just did by calling me ignorant. Fact is, there was a lot of media about people being attacked by pit bulls. I'm sure DV8 didn't name the ball "Bite" because of the breed's friendly reputation. :)
-
This is all a illusion to begin with.... ::) But me as high in my faith that I’m in, it’s obvious that I will NEVER EVER be comfortable with any ball that has the word DEVIL on it (although just a ball).
Just rubs me the wrong way every time.

Media sensationalism at it's best. Did you know that pit bulls aren't the leading cause of dog attacks? Also, pit bull isn't a breed, but a broad generalization of any dog with a blocky head between 35-100 pounds. Pit bulls are routinely abused to create a behavior that is undesirable, such as beating them until they fight back, starving them until they become food aggressive and using them as bait dogs. NOT TO MENTION the inbreeding the people who fight these dogs make their bitches entail is enough to make you wanna puke. But it's the dog. I promise.
But you keep believing the "news". In this area, sir, you are by the very definition ignorant.

No pun intended, but I take serious offense to those names, not cool at all idc about the purpose; It’s bowling no pun intended, but not cool with me at all.
-
Probably wasn't getting it anyways because I don't need it, but I hate the logo look and name for the Idol. Names like Bad Ass I thought were kinda try hard lame.
I second Impending Doom's comments on the Pitbulls as a pitbull owner myself he speaks the truth. I'm not looking to entertain a debate of it on here though.

Try reading my post again without interjecting assumptions of my hate for your favorite dog breed. Fact: lots of people have been mauled by pit bulls, including children. Fact: media outlets jump at a chance to report these incidences. Fact: DV8 named the ball Pitbull Bite because of this hype. Fact: even my small town had two incidences of small children being mauled because they wondered into range of a chained up pit bull.
Live in denial all you want, but calling some else ignorant because they focus on different effects of an event than you is intolerance. I'm sorry, but not everyone is blond, blue eyed, 6 foot tall and in perfect physical condition. People are different. They look different. They act different. They have different beliefs. Some people worry about the dog. Some people worry about the child.

None. I really couldn't care less what a ball is named or looks like. Just the results. I mean there are some names that could go too far, but they wouldn't pass USBC regulations.

Never forget the Banger Hole Pounders

I’m concerned for your general safety.....where do you live?

Boo Yah?

Booyah is probably a reference to the late sports anchor Stuart Scott, who died of cancer in jan 2015, ball was approved in June 2015. His most famous line was, "booyah"...
I like the ball name cause it reminds me of him, one of my favorite sports anchors at ESPN.

I've avoided/sold several because of their scents versus their names. Some of them just smell nasty or way too strong! One that comes to mind is the Crossroad.
-
I not only avoided the Bloody Cross and Bloody Cross Royal, I avoid the whole company. What an idiotic and disrespectful name.
-
I ditched my Reign Supreme years ago because of the overwhelming cinnamon smell. Holding it made my eyes water and my nose drip.
Too bad though because I liked the name even though it did not replace the Hyroad as was intended.
-
Oooh, There's a Blizzard (Snowflake) Pearl now.
I'm beyond disgusted and my day is ruined.
-
Bowling ball with the name "Storm" on the side.

This went south fast . . the only reason there's an issue here is because when Pitbulls DO attack, they're big enough to do serious damage. I've seen waaaay more vicious killer Chihuahuas than Pitbulls, my mother in law had a couple of the coolest Pits ever, but when a 7 pound dog goes on the attack, you can punt it, can't do that with a Pit. Doesn't mean they're violent dogs, that's flawed logic based on a skewed perspective on the facts.
The racial nonsense was over the line though. People are people, race/gender doesn't enter into it, and you pretty well in turn insinuated he was ignorant about life in general, which is pretty laughable. Thought we were complaining about bowling balls?
I was asked to staff for Lord Field several years ago, and was actually a bit rude to the guy because I thought I was being trolled. Could be the best balls ever by a mile, but the best balls ever have zero chance of overcoming that name and their marketing approach. Not to mention the staff agreement was worse than the name and marketing . .

Name, color and smell for storm. If I don’t like any of those I’m not buying the ball. If I don’t like the color, it’ll look weird to me and I’ll continue to imagine it not rolling right. But at the same time, if it’s a stupid name, I’m not gonna buy it because I’m not gonna say the stupid name when somebody asks me what I bought or what I was using.

Yeah it is always best to eliminate the top producing company. They clearly have no idea what they are doing ::) And this is coming from an EBI fan. But when Storm puts out something that looks like will fit a need of mine, I get it.
For me, the appearance/colors has thrown me off to avoid a ball more than the name. I still have purchased some, but the second they don't work for me, I use the excuse I should have known! The Lit was one recently that I was on the fence of purchasing, ended up getting it. So far so good.

I am so glad you know what I would match up with better than me. Only time Storm is a option for me is when I want to practice shooting back row spares.

I loved my Hole Pounder Pearl!!!!

When the insite Almighty came out, being a born-again Christian I just had to have one...so I got one...I Ended up matching up quite well with that ball. As far as the Bloody Cross goes, that doesn't bother me.....Easter which we have just celebrated was preceded by removing Jesus from what I have no doubt was a bloody Cross. I didn't and don't believe I would buy the banger Hole Pounders and Hole Finders..Even though BOWLERSCELLAR still has them to sell, I just couldn't do it.

The Almighty was an amazing ball. High RG Particle balls have an excellent reaction on many conditions.
-
AMF released the "OMG!"
A ball I never saw used in any house.

SERIOUS offense! The audacity and imprudence!

I remember hearing awhile back that the "Badass" and "Thug" series balls were banned from high school tournaments in a few associations. If only the boomers knew what is said and done in high school in today's times. :D This entire thread is my avatar.
