CATS? What is it? I have read several people on here talking about having it done to find their flaws. Where does one get it done? How long is this process? And most important, how much does it cost for a session?

For those of you that have done it, has it benifited your game tremendously? I would like to know. Thanks

CATS = Computer Aided Tracking System

In a nutshell, CATS measures your average ball speed, rev rate, etc... you know- a tool to measure your basic statistics.

However, what makes CATS a gem is how you will do a little bit of a test. When you are warmed up and have a line, you will throw 10 shots. After throwing those 10 shots (you have to make 10 good ones), you will see how accurate your hand rotation, speed, and launch angle/accuracy is.

From there, you will see how you line up compared to other players, and then a coach will determine what you need to do to improve your game.

I will PDF my statistics if you'd like.

Where can you get CATS? Well, there are only a few places that I know that have it. One in Kegel Training Center (http://www.kegeltrainingcenter.com) in Lake Wales, FL, another at the Stadium in Reno (lane 81 pro shop), and at Boardwalk Bowl in Orlando, FL.

If you want it, I believe it is $15,000 to get CATS set up, and $20,000 for a pair. Kegel is the company doing the installations for clients.

I've done the CATS twice, each of the last two years in Reno. The info gained from the CATS can be very useful and at the least,interesting. The crucial part of the whole deal is the instructor. I have twice worked with Mike Jasnau, an excellent instructor. He has the ability to pick up on the finer points that can make or break a delivery.
I believe that it's worth the time and money if, you are flexible enough to take suggestions and work at getting better. There are no quick fixes and finding a good instructor may not be easy. I've had lessons over the years from some that knew and many that think they know.
With the lesson we received a tape of ourselves and Mike talking through the instructions. I've taken the tape and reviewed it several times recently to keep it fresh in my mind. MY average is up, I'm becoming more consistent and recently shot my first 800.
A good instructor + willingness to change and improve are essential.

Well said Amigo2. So many it seems are looking for a quick fix in purchasing the next new ball to hit the market instead of working on the root cause of their woes.

I am looking into changing my technique at the age of 55. It's never to late.

I'm 58 and much better than I was at 21! At 21 I knew very little and just stunk.

If you are going to Kegel (I am good friends with them), contact me and I will give you their phone number and/or email address.

They have a special promotion where a full day lesson on MONDAYS until the end of November are 25% off. It's a huge deal.

Anyway Kegel does lessons for about $250 for Half Day and $400 for a full day lesson. It's pricy but knowledge about your own game is vital to your success, in my opinion. You will be working with either Randy Stoughton (former head coach for Ebonite Starlite Lanes/Ebonite R&D) and/or Stephen Padilla (my super-good friend and great coach).

My hubby and I just did the CATS thing in Reno this past weekend. I booked 215 last year - he booked 130.
There was something beneficial to both of us in the analysis and lesson.
I've been struggling something fierce the last 4 months. I did shoot pretty well the week before Reno, but last night, incorporating about 1/2 what Mike had me working on, I shot really well. The score wasnt' huge, simply because I couldn't pick up a spare for anything - but I shot 666 with 5 opens.

CATS is just the computer tracking portion of the whole system. The video analysis and accompanying lesson(s) is where the value is added.

It's fantastic. I hope to do it again maybe next year, and compare the results.
