League Handicap
« on: June 14, 2006, 03:26:36 AM »
I am going to piggybaqck another member's post here and ask a question...

Our big handicap league had an average cap of 1100 per 5 man team. This gave the handicap system based on 220...90% of 220 if I recall.

This past season we had 2 or 3 guys out of the 90 bowlers post averages over 230.

Should we revise the handicap system? Should it now be based on 230? SHould we do negative pins above 230? Should we drop the handicap to 80% of 220?

I have no opinion, I am just throwing out ideas here.

Some specifics to ponder...
**the top point getting team in the league did not win either half
**the overall winners as result of a roll off finished 5th overall
**the top point getting team had 2 bowlers over 220 and the rest over 200 on average
**the league champs (as the result of winning the first 1/2 and the roll off) contained players with final averages of 208, 197, 193, 175 and 157

What do you guys think? Leave it? Tweak it?

Any and all opinions and suggestions are welcomed.

Just as an example we have a 24 team league of 5 men each and use 80% of 230.  We adjust the 230 number each year based on the high average of the previous year.  We have had about 20 guys average above 220 each year.  That is why we raised it to 230.  As soon as we have guys average over 230 we will raise it to 240.  Here is the kicker....You can recieve no more than 50 pins handicap per bowler.  80% of 230 means that if you average less than 170 you dont get any more handicap then someone averaging 170.  It keeps the lower average bowlers out of the league.

As far as your description I would say raise it to 230.
