Differences in revs on a ball regarding hole pitches
« on: August 10, 2004, 06:40:08 PM »
Hey guys I have a Full Throttle and a Detour, and it seems I get at least twice the amount of revs on the Full Throttle that I do on the Detour. I know that the Full Throttle does rev up faster, but it seems more to have to do with the pitches of my finger holes. It seems like the Full Throttle does have more forward pitch on the finger holes and maybe a tad more reverse pitch in the thumb hole. Could it just be the fact that I'm not grabbing the Full Throttle as much as my Detour on release?

You are not one of these guys who buys balls and doesn't drill them to your specs?.

If so, I have no clue.  How can one ascertain a cause if you are using different and non fitting spans pitches etc.

Good luck

Each ball was fitted to my hand by two different pro shops. One back home and one here, where I go to school. The rest of my equipment is drilled the same as the Detour. The only oddball is the Full Throttle. But the forward pitch on the fingers also put a lot of pressure on my index finger so I dunno if that's such a good thing. And no, I don't buy balls that are close to my specs to save money. I believe that having a ball that fits right is very important.

OK good, then maybe you've found something as far as grip that gives you more revs.  You may have to tweak.

But impossible to ascertain the effect of ball core drilling and grip unless something is constant like 2 of 3 variables.

Hey Platinum,

First note, the Full Throttle does out rev the the Detour by nature from what I've seen.  What you're describing is the normal way to create more turn, adding forward to the fingers because it physically should keep you in the ball longer therefore theoretically giving you more natural finger lift.  Add your additional reverse on your thumb and you should be clearing faster giving you more time for the ball to sit on your fingers...more time in theory means more lift.  However, as JohnP suggested, have them both double checked to see if there is an actual difference.

Mo and Del teach this in their drilling technique to add revs, more forward in the fingers and add reverse to the thumb.

I get a few more revs since I went from 1/4 tuck to 1/4 forward on my fingers

Hey Bob, is this what you meant to say?  I learned "tuck" as the same as under or forward.  Kind of like "tucking" your pinky, it means to curl "in" or "under".  Just curious...thanks.
