Pratice Problem???
« on: January 14, 2009, 12:24:33 PM »
So every since I worked at a bowling alley I have got into a habit of praticing about 3 games before league or tournment.  Well now that bowling alley has closed and when I bowl on Thursday night its second shift league and the league before is full.  The ten mins of pratice just doesnt seem to be enough time to get all loose and ready.  By the time the first game is over I feel loose but have a low game that I try to make up for and end up bowling bad.  Any advice???

+1

I have some knee and wrist issues.  During league, it's not a problem, but in tournaments it can be.  So I always take 10-15 minutes to stretch.  I used to get some funny looks, but I remember in college, no one stretched, then coach saw me doing it, and it became pretty much manditory.  who cares if it makes your scores higher.

+1, too. I am also rather stiff and need some time to loosen up, esp. when I have to drive longer distances to the playing site, I know your problem.

A couple of years ago I started a stretching/warm up routine (and overcame the ambarrassing feeling because I used to be the only player to do so... and still am), and since then my first games have become much better. And I also have less muscle pain or even injuries. And now I can actually use the 10min warm up time to scout the lane instead of fighting with myself and very erratic shots.

Loosen up with a few burpees, lunges, squat jumps and pushups.   5 minutes of these activities and your body will be very loose.  you may even get stronger and have a more productive 10 minutes of "warm up"

Treat bowling like any other sport you would prepare for.  Would you walk out onto the basketball court without stretching and start gaurding someone full court?  Not without pulling something. I reccommend a full stretching routine of at least 10 mins.

Also your first shots should not be full speed, maybe your third and 4th at full speed but you should still be able to read the lanes at 50% and 75% speeds your first 2 shots. And don't shoot at spares in practice!
