Bowled with Ragnar
« on: June 06, 2005, 02:59:47 AM »
Last Friday, in the Fry-day post, I razzed Ragnar about attending a Bridge tournament instead of joining me at a bowling tournament near where he lives. Due to last minute changes, Bob was able to attend the tournament.

I had committed to the first squad with a widow lady from my area. I graciously allowed Bob to bowl with my wife. That was a big mistake. This guy is quite a silver tongued devil. (Silver haired too.

Bob immediately schooled the whole house on how to bowl. I had a slow start being on a strange shot. With a little coaching from Bob, I was able to finish the squad a little over average. Bob, on the other hand, proceeded to shoot in the area of 670. This guy has game!

The tournament, which runs several weeks, was attended by about 40 people from my area. (200 miles away from home.) As always, a couple of people never showed up. (in more ways than one) Bob agreed to fill in and bowl S/D and team over the rest of the weekend.

While I am not going to report scores, I can safely say that Bob probably was one of the best bowlers to hit the lanes this weekend. Bob bowled on the same pair as some of the top bowlers from our house. I am sure if he didn't shoot the highest scores, he was not far behind.

I learned a lot from Bob over the weekend. With the coaching from Bob, I was actually able to bowl well over my average. I have never claimed to be a good bowler. I only post that I bowl. I bowled the best scores of my 4 years of bowling. As of Sunday afternoon, with two more weeks of tournament to go, I was standing tied for 5th place in Singles (2 clean games and a brainfart starting the third game)in the "B" division. We drew a bad pair for team. Had I bowled just a few pins higher, I would be in the money for AE. (10 pins out)

Overall, it was a great weekend. Bob is not only a good bowler but a very good person. (gin drinker) We didn't have a lot of time to visit but did so when we were able. If I learned anything, it was how to read the lanes a little better.

TT

PS  Bob used an arsenal of Buzzsaws while I mainly used my Absolute and OI.

PSS  A couple of our lanemen bowled too. They were amazed by the shot. It was fairly consistent from lane to lane and actually lasted longer than 5 frames. They all realize what a horrible shot we have at home.

Awww shucks, guys.

I had a good time this weekend.  Bowling with TT's wife was enjoyable, as was bowling with all the other guys he brought with him.  Didn't get to cross with TT but from what I saw he threw the ball pretty well all weekend.  It was an interesting mix of guys; some better than others but all a good group.  One of the  guys shot a 289 game and was clearly a better player than me (I think around 225 average).  I was glad the opportunity came up to do this.  I was more than happy to give TT some notion of how the lanes played in this house, though they actually were slightly different than normal, depending on what oil you got.  They oiled every 12 games so you could get quite a difference.  (more on this in another thread).

TT, as long as you don't tell anyone what I shot in doubles you'll remain alive.
