In my traveling scratch league a team had a bowler simply quit showing up after 20 weeks. The team captain’s attempts to contact them have either gotten no return calls from messages or on a couple of occasions were hung up on once the bowler figured out who was calling.

They have found a bowler at this point willing to finish the year. But they have 6 weeks where they used blinds/subs that the bowler owes for since they didn’t formally withdraw from the league.

The team captain is miffed at this point and wants to start proceedings to pull the bowlers sanction card.

However the absent bowlers prize money for the 20 weeks would more than cover the weeks owed.

So the question is do you simply use the prize money they would be owed at the end of the year to cover their owed arrears or do you seek to have their sanction card pulled?

Yep. Put it on file with the local association. If your assoc is like ours, they won't do anything because prize money will cover the fees, but at least the complaint will be in his file.

By the way - you might want to find out the rest of the league's feelings - call a meeting or something. One of my leagues has had this happen more than once, so now if the team envelope is behind ONE WEEK (in total, not per bowler, and not for known absences) the team forfeits all points. I have one teammate who assumes I'm always paid ahead, so he can skate. This year I haven't been paying ahead, so he has to be paid up. Surprise, surprise - he can go without a little beer or video poker, and the envelope's caught up!
