Players Championship

Almost got sick watchinging the finals between Kevin and Jacob.  Couldn't believe what I was seeing.  A "set up" match with the winner already determined.  Between Jacob faking it on one lane to contestnts making jokes behind the scene.  Was deplorable.  The whole show was a publicity stunt featuring the "McCune dynasty".  What a "dynasty", Grandfather cheating to win tournaments with soaking balls,  Dad a mediocure player at best.  His main claim to fame is throwing the ball hard.  Randy and crew trying their best to make it a "happening"  harping on the subject of three generations winning on the tour.  Feel sorry for Kevin.  He is a version of the "new" bowler.  Throw it hard with lots of revs. Saw him get penalized quite a few times because of excess speed.  Would like to see the PBA start putting out a shot that rewards bowling skills, not revs and audience perception.

It was a win-win scenario for the PBA regardless of who won.  Jakob winning on Mother's Day or Kevin winning for the McCune legacy.  It doesn't make sense that Jakob would agree to stand down, lose $50K, and get criticized by the announcers for not adjusting.  It was just Jakob having a bad day and Kevin having a good one.  We will probably see Jakob on TV again sooner than we will see Kevin.

Also it had nothing to do with how the lanes were set up.  The modern environment rewards speed and revs as the best way to overcome the nasty transitions associated with high friction balls. McCune won because he was able to stay way right on the shorter pattern.

Well, Kevin learned today that there is more to the game than speed.  Maybe he will learn a lesson from today.    He did show some skill the last half of his game.  That looking for help from the ball reps after each shot will undo him.  But he's got to learn that speed isn't the answer.  His Dad never learned.

Why Jakob did not listed to Parker is beyond me.

I struggle with OP’s assessment here, are we really judging someone off a TV show appearance? Kevin has so many tools, and is so good at more than just throwing hard, I’ve seen him slow wheel it, two hand it, throw rockets, the kid works so darn hard and is so talented. Using your balls reps for advice is a huge thing on TV, it may have seen more obvious with him compared to others, but he was just using his available resources. And Kevin has done considerably well at the Us Open and Masters, so saying he’s only good on easy patterns or because his high rev rate is ridiculous.

Sorry if this comes off as a rant, but as someone who has crossed with Kevin often in the Midwest for years, the kid is a phenom, and extremely humble.
