Bowlers Journal Top 100 Highschool Prospects
« on: July 07, 2006, 07:23:53 AM »
I just got a copy of BJ in the mail a couple days ago.  I noticed the cover article was about the top 100 highschool bowling prospects...  immediately my interest was sparked.  I had to see the list.  No big surprise, but Mushtare WASN'T LISTED.  HAHA.  Either this is a mega-oversight on BJ's part OR BJ agrees with 90% of us here an BR and thinks he's a liar, cheater, and all around just not that good.

Is there a guy from Smyrna, Tenn., named Kyle Barnes on that list?

Lol... Kyle Barnes is freaking sick!! I live in Tn and I have had a few chances to bowl with him. He set the Smyrna house record with 856 or 859 at the age of 16. He averaged like 201 in Jr. Gold. 240 on a House Shot. He gets some rediculous pin action and just rips the absolute crap out of the ball. He's 17 now and has well over 25 300's along with 8 or more 800's. If anyone ever has a chance to watch this kid bowl you wouldnt be disappointed.

Everyone in the family has shot 300. Mother, father, both the boys.

Kyle has 28 300s now, I think. He not only has the Smyrna house record, he's got all the junior state records and I think owns the overall state record for high series now.

He's got a brother, age 12 or 13, who already has probably a dozen 700s, just shot his first 300, has an 800 (I think) and keeps getting better. He's had a lot of health problems, though. The whole family has great attitudes, too. Every one of them a class act.

Chris White, one of his Smyrna teammates, is an excellent bowler, too. Lefty. He and Kyle both will be at Pikeville next year. The rest of the team ain't bad. James Skinner, Ben Anderson and Josh Zimmerman will all be back.

I bet we see at least Kyle on tour in a few years.

About 20-30 minutes southeast of Nashville, between La Vergne and Murfreesboro.

The population around here is booming; more people live here now that moved from other areas than were original residents of the community. It's turning into a big bedroom community for Nashville. You probably wouldn't have "anti-northern" problems if you moved back.

Hey Jess. Where do you live in Tn? Im 19 and Im still a youth bowler. I was going to post about Chris White also. That dude has a very smmoth release and hes extremely good. I know of Brandon and I knew his highest practice game was a 298 or 299. If he has finally shot his first 300 I am glad to here about that. I have heard the same about Brandon and the health problems. I hope he is getting better because he too is alot of fun to watch. You can learn alot from the both of them. I think Kyle can come across as cocky sometimes, but it doesnt bother me at all. He has accomplished alot and he can go into just about any house and throw up a 230 average if he wants. Ill tell you right now everyone thinks Brandon will be better than Kyle which is a scary thought. As your input with Kyle going pro... I think if he doesnt get burnt out on bowling and keeps his head straight, keeps getting better, and works harder on the sport shots theres no doubt hell be on tour. Hell be something to watch ill say that.

I'm in Murfreesboro. I'm currently bowling on the PBA Regional shot league they've got going in Smyrna and all the high school bowlers are on it (league is unsanctioned, with no prize fund -- all we're doing is paying lineage, not even trophies at the end, so the kids aren't jeopardizing eligibility).

Brandon did just shoot his first 300, about a month ago. He had surgery (again) about two months ago and he's just now starting to get it all back. He hasn't looked as strong as he did last year, though.

Chris and Kyle are tearing the place up and humbling a lot of the rest of us. (g) Skinny, Josh and Ben have teams, too, and are doing well. Johnny Gillis is moving up to varsity this year (he's bowling with his little bro and Brandon this summer) and I think they've got a couple of transfers coming via redistricting. I didn't think they'd be back in the mix for a third title next year but with the transfers, a three-peat is in play.

Kyle has some cocky to him, but he doesn't have any meanness. He's just really confident. He'd be money on television. He's got great presence and would be exciting to watch. I'd kill to have Chris' release.

I bowl a sport league with Natalie Cortese who was one of the top 100 female high school bowlers and I'm out averaging her by 7 or 8 pins
