Why do you bowl, and what does it mean to you?
« on: May 27, 2003, 09:49:41 AM »
That pretty much says it all.  I took it up after I graduated high school, and found I was actually good at it.  I have very few friends, and I really enjoy it.  I bowl because of those reasons, and what it means to me is that I can finally enjoy doing something I'm good at without people making fun of me, and being at a place where I'm respected instead of ignored.  Anyone?

Lol, I'm a RABID perfectionist, which I suppose I get from my mom, when it comes to sports.  I mean, how hard is it when the ball is a foot wide to get it close enough to the pocket to score with?  Yeah, I'm probably too hard on myself, but you ought to see me when I'm practicing.  I tone it down on league nights cause I don't want to look like too much of an idiot, but if you see me going off, you can pretty much bet it was my fault instead of bad ball reaction or carry.  I wish I could stay calmer like you, and focus better.

I started bowling because it was a family thing to do from age 4.  Bowled in match point leagues in my 20's for the money and the competition.  Got married and went from 40+ games a week to 3.  Hated it and not having fun at all.  So I wanted to retire from bowling.  I still had the drive but the sharpness was gone and had very little time.  I quit for about a year and went back to school to finish 2 college degrees and I had the itch.  My father retired bought a Pro Shop and started bowling SASBA.  He approached my wife about creating a Slide Sock for approaches.(She came from a bowling family also)  Boom she needed testers and to keep from looking silly I started bowling more.  Her business has been nutz with new products and patents coming about. It's grown all over the country. I'm not at the level I would like to be yet but I'm working on it. It's still a challenge!

Really!  Pick any sport.  Ask that same question.  Get the same answer!

Why do I bowl?  To get out of the house one night a week.

What does it mean to me?  It means I don't have to change my daughter's diapers that night.
