After you got your IT(assuming you liked it) did you convert any old equipment to the IT system? For discussion purposes let's assume all of the old balls can be converted. I like the feel of the IT and I am considering converting some of my old balls.
-
Converting over old equipment has been pretty standard for our customers that have utilized the Vise-It system. They bring us one ball to try it out in and starting bringing in a ball or 2 a week.

Anyone know what is the safest and easiest way to remove the IT from a ball??

Does any one know if any shops in the southern Mississippi, Alabama, or Louisiana area using the Vise IT???
-
I just started doing about 2 weeks ago. Drilled a nib, put the it in it and then started convertin other balls. Got a total of about 8-10 of them done now. I love it, balls that were really close but not quite perfect are all perfect. I recommend to anyone, its really easy to use

Is it a must to have the starter kit? or can you just buy the slugs and inner pieces needed and go from there?
-
I converted all 7 of my balls to the vise IT.. I didn't us a thumb slug before and was changing span so everything was being plugged for redrill anyway..
They are great.. they all feel identical and I think it has allowed me to improve my bowling game..

One more question..anyone IT their spare ball?
I didn't just for the fact I don't want to take time and hold up the game changing my thumb back and forth everytime I have to attempt a spare ..

Yes, I have. I have a dedicated slug in the spare, so I don't have to constantly change it between my strike balls. Having IT in the spare ball is useful for those times when the thumb swells. I have a few extra in different sizes to avoid having to play with tape all the time.
-
Same as Steven use same size IT in spare ball as strike ball. At this time I have two regular size and two larger with one more side cut. Use oval thumbs done on Ebonite mill machine.

-
Same as Steven and scotts33 i have a slug dedicated to my spare ball. That way there is no switching back and forth. Plus in s pinch gives you another spre if needed

I converted all of my older equipment to the IT. I don't have a slug dedicated to the Spare ball, but I like that idea. Plus then there is a back up slug. I have 3 slugs each slightly bigger than the first. I just use the next larger slug in my spare ball.

If you mean just removing the inner slug, I know it can be a pain (at least relative to Switch Grips). A friend of mine blistered his bowling thumb switching out slugs across balls through the night.
I've got in the habit of using my non-bowling left thumb to perform the counter-clockwise unscrew motion. I put my left thumb in the slug, slightly knuckle it to get leverage, and rotate the ball clockwise with my right hand under the ball. It's really quick once you get the dual motion down.
There are probably several ways, but this seems to work without taking the chance of ripping the skin on my right thumb.

Anyone care to elaborate how much change there is in the core when going to IT?

are you talking about removing the locking mechanism that is in the bottom of the thumb hole..??? I imagine if you drill it out down the center it should come out once you get the wedge piece that helps lock it in place.. then just break the glue out..
if you are talking about unscrewing the IT slug.. just put your thumb in and turn.. when I first got mine I could barely get it locked and unlocked.. I actually sanded the little tab a bit so it would lock and unlock easier..don't do that unless you have to though.. too much and it wont lock correctly or at all..
I saw a tip after i did this that said to take a bit of skin oil from your nose and apply it to the locking tab on the bottom of the slug.. this should lubricate it enough to help it engage easier.

I asked that question before I had my balls converted. I was told that there isn''t a difference in reaction.. I honestly haven''t noticed any significant difference in the ball reaction from before to after..
and I didn''t use a thumb slug before I went to the IT..

I am referring to actually removing the locking mechanism.

For M300
Remove because? If you are going back to no IT system just use a 1 1/4 drill bit and drill out the "ball it" portion. I wouldn''''t worry about drilling out the molly expander/safety molly, and just plug it. You will probably not drill as deep for no insert and regular insert! If you want to get the mollys out just use a 5/8 bit after using the 1 1/4 without moving the ball and drill about 1 1/8 deeper!

Use "IT" and BOWL UP A STORM!!

Turbo did a study on this and they concluded that the ball dynamics INCREASED after drilling the thumb hole larger. So it enhances ball reaction, not retard it.
But if you already use slugs I would imagine there won''t be much difference.. There is only a little bit more drilled out with the IT installed.
I would agree that drilling the thumb hole bigger would increase the dynamics.. but I have been told the slug material is close in density to the coverstock and filler.. so it would depend how much of the actual core was taken out..
but thinking about it again I would say that my balls are a bit smoother which would coincide with an increase in flare.. but I had changed so many things (span, pitches, release, shoes) it is hard to tell the cause..

Wow, a lot of replies, thanks!
I think it's a great idea to use put the IT in my spare ball and keep it there and use it as a spare if necessary. My current spare ball isn't a likely candidate because it's cracked around the middle finger and I am waiting for to crack around the bridge before buying a new one.
-
as for removing the molly and junk if u dont like the system, i have found that using a hammer and screw driver work best. however i have been unsuccesful at removing the molly without completely removing all the ball material surrounding it.

-
When i converted my balls, reaction seems to be the same, can't tell any difference and they feel sooooooo good lol. Easiest thing in the world to use once u give it a few games of getting used too

I bowled 7 games today using my IT balls and thumb is in pretty good shape when compared to my other balls because they all seem just a touch different with the tape. I think I am going to IT a couple of old balls I think I am going to use. Great system!
