Bowlers vs. Education Level?
« on: April 07, 2005, 01:38:38 PM »
I was reading the recent post about "Why are all bowlers fat and stupid?", and I got to wondering ... are bowlers stupid? (Note - stupid and uneducated are different, but for the purpose of a smooth transistion to a new post here, let's assume they're the same.)
How many of the readers here have a college education, or plan to get a college education? If you are degreed, what was your major?
I think that you'll find that more often than not, bowlers are as educated as anyone else.
I'll start the list ... BS in Mech. Engineering, Ohio State; Masters in Engineering from Case Western Reserve University.
How about you?
Added - 4/8/05 - I forgot to add, I'm 5'11", 165#. Love all sports, esp. mountain biking.

I've got two Bachelor's degrees, in Computer Engineering and Math from Mississippi State and I'm working on my PhD in Computational Engineering, also from MSU.

But like NACDale, I'm a bit pudgy.  I could stand to lose two or three bowling balls around the middle.

BS University of Wisconsin-Madison  Chemistry

There was an article in the Virginian Pilot in 1995 (a bowling article) citing a study performed by William Daley involving over 58,000 athletes.  According to the article bowlers ranked #1 with an average IQ of 129 while golfers came in at 97.  Tennis players were at 109 while basketball, football and baseball players hit 105, 103 and 101 respectively.

I don't know if it's BS or not.  I know I saw the article a number of years ago.  I believe it was cited in Bowlers Digest at one time.  I tried to find it on line and the site listed below is what I came up with.

UMES-University of Maryland Eastern Shore- Freshman Year
Major- Electrical Engineering Technology
GPA- 2.2 ( would be a 2.7, but I got 1 D!) Will improve a lot by the time I'm done.

I realized that I am a bum! The more I learn the worse I bowl. The faster my feet the more I strike. Why?? I can't tell you why cause I don't know myself. I have learned that you perfect what you do best and be good at what you do. Loft the ball, fast feet, whatever, just enjoy the game and don't complain when you lose. Learn from it and move on.
"I live to bowl but great bowlers bowl to live."-my philosophy.

I have left a pocket 3-9 with a 16lb bowling ball. How'd I do it?????? UHHHHH IOONO Practice James has yet to step up to tourney James.

K-Dawg77 - Isn't the yellow rose really out of San Marcos?

My brother in law is in the CAF and is on the Yellow Rose flight team. He is retired navy, flew P-3 Orion sub hunters and lives on Canyon lake.

Actually, yes it is. They moved it I guess about seven? years ago from Stinson Field. He probably knows my grandfather, Charles Grienke.

Just did this last week.
Here's the short version: 320 undergrad hours (still, I believe, the WSU record), 3 undergrad degrees awarded (completed requirements for 3 more); 1 graduate degree.
