Bowlers vs USBC
« on: May 14, 2005, 04:30:20 AM »
Does anyone think there will be bowlers that will quit if the new rules of the USBC pass?

For sure, alot more will threaten than actually will. But I believe that for many it will be the last straw when they actually have to purchase something new. I suspect this change will actually be delayed providing a longer term to grandfather todays balls that dont conform 18months to 2 years just seems to short to me.

The total amount of people who moved to canada after the last election will also quit bowling (see: ragnar).

Bones and pin-chaser, you both have written exactly what I have been thinking. I appreciate the sensible response both of you made. That's kind of how I have felt all along and is the reason I have stayed out of the other USBC topics as I didn't agree with some of the negative talk and didn't want to get into any arguments.

After they move to Canada do we have to let them come back?

Amigo

Maybe they'll leave their balance holes there.

Sure, there will be some that will quit because they think someone else will gain an unfair advantage with the new rules.

On the other hand, there are probably just as many that are planning on quitting that may stick around because they see the USBC is trying to do something to better the sport.

Hopefully, it will be a wash.

Bottom line, we have lost bowlers for years with the ABC setting back and doing nothing.

What do we have to lose?  Better to go down swinging instead of letting things continue to slide.

That is NOT about the PROPOSED spec changes.  THAT is about the RG change that was MANDATED a couple of months ago.

Still considering it.  Been checking out real estate around central British Columbia.

Hank Boomershine is afraid that we'll lose bowlers over these changes (see my topic on this).

This is like baseball.

There was the dead ball era and then the modern ball era. The modern ball was introduced around 1920 (I don’t know the exact year).

Prior to the modern (more lively) ball era no one would hit more than 15 or 20 home runs in a season, not even Babe Ruth. When the new ball was introduced the Babe started hitting 40+ every year. It was a different game.

It is evident that even the majority of posters on this board, let alone the majority of league bowlers, are not willing to go back to the dead ball era. And in reality they are not willing to rein in the lane conditions either because this too will show their lack of skill compared to the previous era.

So today’s bowling is a different game and as such it is impossible to compare accomplishments of today with pre-urethane scoring.

Honor scores will become nothing but patch opportunities. Ultra high averages will always be suspect of illegal lanes.

Don’t bad mouth bowler’s accomplishments and styles of the “dead ball” era for many know not of what those conditions were.

Don’t expect me to revere your accomplishments as I know they were gained under conditions that make them common place and do not deserve reverance.

I've been out of bowling for 6 yrs and just recently got back into it in March. The game has changed a lot since I last played. The equiptment has changed more than anything I've seen out of this sport. I don't see a need for change, except for the prices of the equiptment. Most folks bowl to put up big numbers. If the rules are changed and it hinders the scoring abilities of the avg. Joe bowler then it will make him/her decision to quit just that much easier. I didnt stop bowling because I wasnt scoring. I stopped because my work schedule wouldnt allow me to continue. I think The USBC should advertise more, give out more scholarships and grants. There tons of young bowlers they can reach that would bring in future memberships. Hell they could even start giving out manufacturers coupons to go towards equiptment that is over priced now a days. Theres all kind of things they could do keep and bring new members in, but they don't want to shell out any cash to do so. Just my thoughts.....
