bowling accomplishments--have you reached yours?
« on: May 20, 2004, 11:27:09 AM »
As we grow older I think our future accomplishments/goals change.  Hopefully we are working towards those goals every year.  I remember when I was in youth my goal was to shot a 200 game.  Then it happened, so my goal changed to 225.

Can our goals reach a plateau?  I usually don't set a goal(s).  I think about something I want to do someday but I don't set a particular time in my life for it to happen.  Have you reached your goals in bowling?  I think I have reached all but very few.

600 series
650
700
750
800
290 game
300 game
triplicate
150 over series
state scratch champion x 2

I would like to win an eagle someday but I can't even make it to nats most years.  If I had to make a goal for the upcoming year, I would say win all events scratch in state.  I came in 27 this year, 2nd the year I won singles(in ND).

My goals last year was to make the State Team, and get my bowling to a more consistent level, well Ive done both, after a style change and a lot of hard work, Im bowling the most consistent I ever have and I made the State Team.

As for the next goal, WIN SOMETHING!

I would agree with Sawbones that my goals since I've been bowling for 25 plus years consist of trying to keep my average a little bit above the previous year's average as well as cashing in at least one tournament a year and seeing if I can hit a 300 game or 800 series.

Even though my season average was 2 pins down from my previous year's average in my main league (195 in 2003, 193 this year) I was still the high average in the house. In the house that I sub in I was at 208 for the year. My father and I cashed in a doubles portion of an out of state tournament, finishing in 6th compared to a 14th cash finish the previous year. My tournament average for the year was 202 for 45 games between tournaments in 3 different states.

And I also kept steady with a goal of shooting at least one 700 series during league/tournament competition in the fall season.

I’ve done everything in bowling goals I could have ever dreamed about when I was 20.

With the way the game has changed there are a couple of things left I would like to do but they are probably unlikely to happen.

My main goal anymore is just not to hurt myself, being of a frail nature and my advanced age.

My goals are always based on the previous years accomplishments .. always try to do better the following season. I've been lucky so far .. each year my average has been equal or 1/2 pins higher .. high game has been equal or a couple of pins higher. Naturally my DREAM is to hit ALL the HONOR scores but as long as I continue to bowl that GOAL is still attainable!

Luv, me too!

I also want to become more consistent.  I need to get rid of that one subpar game that's marred otherwise good sets.  I can't even blame it on transition.

I think I've reached some pretty considerable goals, seeing as how I have only bowled for 3 years now.

My First Year:
145 Avg.
160 Game
180
200
220
500 Series
550
600
650

My Second Year:
183 Avg
200 Game
220
240
260
600 Series
650

My Third Yeay (Just Ended a week ago)
203 Avg.
220 Game
240
260
280
300
650 Series
700
750
781 ( yea yea I choked, well no I didn't, it was a stone 9)

City Tournament Champion Singles, Doubles, All Events for 2 of 3 years.
State Tournament Champion Singles, Doubles, All Events 2 of 2 years, I go to state again in a week

I plan to average about 210 or 220 this next year, and I know I can.  The only thing I want that I don't have is an 800 series and a 215 average, and maybe some money to get me some new equipment.

hmm goals...well I want more 300s and 800s.  1 of each just doesn't cut it...heh yeah I'm a bit greedy.  So many nights this year I felt like I had shots at a 300 and an 800, but just couldn't carry em...too many solid 10s and even solid 8s.  If the carries had gone my way, I could have had atleast around 10 300s this season in the 4 houses that I bowled at.  800s...eh well I had my share of high 760s and that was as close as I came without getting the 800.  Always a couple of shots away.  I'd like to get the 298 just for the sake of having the ring and to start having an impact in tournaments.  Leagues are alright, but the tournaments are where the tougher conditions and the money is.

I set my goals too high for this being my first year bowling. I wanted to have:
600 series (pissed it away missing spares)

239 game (100 pins over my average, best was 230)

raise my average to 140 (started bowling better too late in the season, 139)

for just learing a hook ball this year, I expected too much out of myself, and by the time I started averaging 170-180, it was too late to get my averaged up, and missed too many spares for my 600.....man, can't wait for next season!

I wanted to shoot 300/800 this past season but it didn't happen so my goals have not been met.  Maybe this coming year.
