All I know is even though outside of 8ish was dry the plastic house ball gave me a superb reaction but I also noticed that I could actually release it how I wanted every time. I used to kill my hand trying to throw a conventional house ball finger tipped and realized why I was in pain so tried it how it's supposed to be. One thing I was thinking about it how much greater flexibility in my fingers I had. It never hurt, something that has been bothering me with finger tipped grip. I tried a reverse pitch once to try and help these problems but hurt my game more then it helped. Also, I felt like even though I was getting it through the front portion of the lane because it was a tough, mediocre quality plastic house ball I could aim better with it also without naturally ripping through the finger holes like finger tipped grip.
I have some old resin balls I don't use anymore for either being old or the grip doesn't feel right. I may actually grab an old ball and get the fingers plugged and try a conventional grip using my normal release. Also might add, former pba touring pro Chris Warren went to a conventional grip and from what I saw I didn't notice a difference in revs when I watched him.
