BOWLING BAGS ?????????????
« on: September 08, 2003, 07:43:43 PM »
I am just curios to know what you look for when you purchase a bowling bag? What features do you want, what colors do you like, what modifications would you make,is there a bag you would like to see that is not currently produced? What makes you decide to buy a 3 or 4 ball bag? Your thoughts...................

The best feature that I haven't been able to find is someone to carry my bag for me.  Ha Ha.

Anymore, competitive bowlers must bring with them more balls than they can safely carry at one time.  Even 4 balls are difficult to drag around on your shoulders for any length of time.  Therefore the wheeled bags have become very common.  My biggest problem with these is the width of the 4-ball bags considering most bowling alleys do not have large enough concourse areas for two lanes of traffic with these big bags.  I prefer the inline 3-ball bags for this reason.

Now that I've shown my preference for wheeled bags, I will list the most important features for them.  The wheels must be large and very rugged with the ability to withstand a pounding.  I haven't seen it yet, but I would like to see an arm stick out from the bottom of the bag that would set up high enough so that the weight of the bag is not supported by the wheels when the bag is horizontal.  Anything to relieve pressure from the wheels as much as possible would lengthen their lives.  I also look for a bag that is tall enough so that I don't have to bend over when dragging it behind me.  The 3-ball bags work well for this, but most of the 2-ball bags don't have a long enough handle.  For those that have difficulty lifting a 3-ball bag into their trunk a two ball bag with a long handle is great.

For any bag, I want a large area for shoe storage.  My shoe size isn't huge, but I like to use shoe bags and several bowling ball bags don't have a big enough compartment for these.  Another great feature is to have a padded area for the balls with a strap to secure them down.  Again this goes back to the pounding they may take especially on the airlines.  We've all got several dollars tied up in balls and they need protection.  I also like the removable accessory bags that have popped up in recent years.  These are great when you have access to a storage area for most of your equipment and only have to worry about a couple balls and your extras.

Granted, the three ball wheeled bags are easier to get through doors and down the concourse, however. my biggest gripe on the three ball bags is that when they are open and you stand them up, stuff falls out of them. The four ball rollers, while wider, remain standing as you get stuff out of them and put it back. Me?..... I use a four ball roller, a KR Strikeforce in Black. Love it!!!

I see so many people with those stacked 4 ball bags that have the handle broken on them.  I've never had one, but will not be getting one until I know that the problem is solved with them.

I like my Big Mouth, three ball bad, from Ebonite and have had no problems with it at all.

I've had my storm 4-baller for three years now without any problems what so ever.the only gripe I do have is that you have to take the top bag off to get to the bottom bag.I see now they have an opening in front on the bottom so that you don't have to do the bag shuffle.other than that the handel and wheels are holding up good, maybe too good.
The harder I try the harder they fall

I have an AMF 4 ball last years model. (the black/silver/nail) I love it. It has Lots of storage and seems to be durable. Mine is a year old and still in great shape.

I currently have a 3 ball inline roller and a two ball tote.  It is easy to get through the crowds, but there is no storage.  I end up having to dump stuff all over the bowling balls and stuff like that to get all my stuff home.  I just bought a six ball roller and I am hoping it will save the problem.  If you don't have a lot of added stuff to take with you to the lanes then I would say go with the inline 3.  If you carry stuff though get more storage.

I have a storm 4 ball bag that is 4 years old and still in great shape. The dowmfall to it is that even though it has 3 wheels, they are small and it is harder to pull than the newer bags with two 6" wheels.

From what I have seen on the newer bags, KR bags with 6" wheels appear to be the better bags.

I have the newer version of the Storm 4 ball bag that six pack mentioned. With this you dont have to remove the top section to get to the balls in the bottom. It is front loading so to speak.
Its a great piece of kit and loads of pockets to boot.
Splits easily to fit in the car and Ive found the handle to be very strong.
I go up and down a couple of stairs with it everytime I use it.
I would definatly buy another if anything happened to this which is the highest compliment i can think of.

I was using a three ball inline and had one that Storm actually never hit the market with. Had tons of storage and was easy to get around. Getting it out of my trunk was another story. Actually threw my back out a couple times, not as young as I used to be. I now use a Storm 4 ball roller and the bag is great. The only complaint mentioned above is getting it around inside bowling centers. I did look a bit first last time and the material used and the zippers would be a good thing to compare as well.
