Bowling Bags, Carrying Them To Leagues, 3 Balls+
« on: November 08, 2016, 07:31:51 AM »
Going to make this short because this is a question I have never understood the reality of...

Currently I use a 4 ball bag from Storm, the two layer one with wheels where you can separate the top 2 balls from bottom 2 balls for transportation and ease.

However, I see many people in my leagues using 3 ball bags (the triple in a row) and some even with 3 ball bags with another ball attached at the handle.  How are you are lifting these bags into and out of the car, into and out of the house?  My biggest struggle on bowling night is just getting into and out of the alley.  Keep in mind I'm pretty athletic (6'0" 200lbs) but I still have issues with this.  Then I see people carrying 2 ball bags on their shoulders.  How?

I don't get it.  Either you old guys are using 13lbs or less or you are all freaks of nature.  My 4 ball bag with balls is well over 70lbs.  I'm guessing a 3 ball tote is at least 40lbs.

I just don't get it lol.  :P

Good sirs, I'm 5'5 and 130 just after having gone nuts at the buffet. All I use anymore are totes and a backpack for my other crud. You have to be careful when moving 50 lbs of balls. Lift with legs, drop balls in trunk if needed.

I hear that, I'm 5'6" 145lb......the lift of the 48.5 (thanks airport!) 3 ball roller isn't too bad, just need to take a second and lift properly.  So really I'm only "lugging" my 2 ball on my shoulder and pulling the 3 ball.

BUT, I do have my 40's to look forward to......  :(  :P

Well, I googled this topic after recently purchasing a 3 ball tote.  I wanted one for years, and finally got one... and now I'm like whoa...  I start by trying to get the tote down five concrete stairs.  I'm worried if I don't pick it up, I'm going to break the wheels.  Then I roll it to my two door car, and I wonder where the best place is.  Safety is an obvious concern here, as I don't want a bowling bag rolling over my face if I were in a wreck.

I can lift it in the trunk, which is a bit tough but seems to be the best option.  I can also pull back the seat and try to get it into the back..but getting it out is usually harder.  Someone even suggested putting it into the passenger seat and seatbelting it in (lol). This would be the obvious choice for how easy it is, but I don't think it would be very safe.  Is there a certain place people tend to put these?  I'm 5'6", about 135.. Figure I'll have some nice arms by the end of the fall season.  I've even considered leaving the bag in my car, but I've never done that and don't like that thought.

you people really cant easily lift 45-50 pounds into a trunk of a standard car using both arms and legs? looks like some people need to do a little more than go from home to their office and back home to the couch every day.

3 ball bag in the trunk is the way I do it. Have a 2 ball bag I'll make use of for tournaments. Might get a second 3 ball bag.

If you're 18 - 45 years old AND in good shape, and the shape of your trunk or back of the truck is easy to put the 50 lb (3 x 15 lb. = 45 lbs. the bag and shoes and all other other stuff does not weight zero!) into the trunk, then yes.

If you have back problems or you're not "spring chicken any more, or your bag is not balanced, or the shape of your trunk is not easy to get the awkward shaped 3 - bag roller into it, then maybe it's not the best thing to do.

For years, I've found a 4 bag roller, which easily breaks down into 2 tw0-ball-bags, much easier to manipulate, get into any trunk, no matter the shape, drag up 5 or 8 steps into the house and back down. Besides with the huge variability in the oil pattern and amount I see in every house, a 3 ball strike arsenal is essential, along with a plastic spare ball.

I turn 70 next month. I still carry the 2 ball section of my 4 ball roller, up and down stairs and around corners and through doorways. Trying to do that with a much bulkier and heavier 3 ball roller is insane and stupid.

I still carry 40, 50 & 80 lb. bags of lawn and garden bags of fertilizer, manure, and insect killer, out of my truck and out into the garden and out into the treed area, 80 and 100 feet away. I'll be damned if I'm going to do that with a bulky and hard to maneuver 3 ball bag.

I'm 6'0" and 200lbs and do powerlifting 3-4 days a week and have the same problem as that guy.  We aren't talking about lifting 45-50lbs straight up.  We are talking about all the odd/vulnerable positions your body has to be in to move this weight (which is awkward in itself: 3 smooth spheres in a row in some tarp-like bag) from point A to point B.  It only takes one slip for you to wreck your bowling and your life with 3-balls.

Necromancer - you are exactly right.  I go to the gym 3x a week also and lifting a 50 pound barbel is fine but trying to manipulate the bag into the type of trunk I have while trying not to do any damage isn't always easy.  It went smoother today than previous times but I'm still learning.  I used to have a 2 ball bag, which I carried on my shoulder.  The weight per say isn't the problem... it's the durability of the bag and where you're trying to get it!  I'll manage though.  I'm just glad I'm not overlooking a simple way I could be doing it.
