bowling ball disposal
« on: July 17, 2008, 07:34:01 AM »
what is the most odd way you have disposed of a bowling ball?

I would have to say thrwing two off the college avenue bridge after a bad night is the most odd way.

It wasn't me, but a buddy got a huge hole put in a ball, put a quarter stick in it and packed it in there so it would come out, and lit it and chucked it down an old country road where it rolled for a bit and blew up.

It was more scary than awesome, but it did blow the ball up and no one was hurt.

if the post is intended to get the oddest means of disposal, fine....but if getting rid of them, why not go for the Youth League and donate them??

One of the driller I used to frequent saved the bad ones and donated them to the Zoo.  Apparently the lions loved playing with them.

The two I tossed in the river of no use anywhere, a Piranah/c that was so beat up their were no labels left on the ball and a Blue Nitro, it was in decent shape I was using it as a spare ball and I couldn't make it work finally one night I missed every spare I left in the first game and slammed it down on the rack and used my primary ball for both strikes and spares, after the switch I didn't miss a spare the rest of the night. I was so mad I took the ball to the bridge when I got done and tossed it in, I didn't want anyone else to be cursed by that Ebonite piece of junk.

I watched someone back in Juniors miss a spare to lose and then proceeded to walk outside and throw the Gyro Pro in the Lake/Pond.

how about these ones.. my grandfather and I drilled holes all the way through them.. he hooked them to a chain and uses them when we go fishing to slow the boat dowm as we drift.. I also gave about 20 older balls to a man that did the same thing with them.. drilled holes through them but he used them to create a fence for his garden.. he put three to a rod and with a rod through the top ball he shifted them to fill the gaps somehow.. actually pretty cool looking when he finished it... hes not even a bowler..lol.. I thought it looked cool...

the sturgeon fisherman must use them as line weights, since sturgeon are usually very sluggish, deep-water fish.

They kinda have that same cat-fish mentality of loving deep-set holes and caves in channels and/or lakes.

that added weight, plus the roundness would make sure their bait rolls up in there good!

Thanks for the topic. It reminded me of something I witnessed in college(imagine that) that was stupid, scary and funny.

We were bowling in a collegiate tournament at Strike and Spare Lanes in St. Louis over Thanksgiving. With one game to go in the first block a guy on our team was averaging 250 and the leading scorer. He then proceeds to throw a 120-130 game to end the block. He was so mad when he got outside he threw his ball down the parking lot as hard as he could. The ball made it to the entrance of the parking lot(which is on an incline) and it rolls across the street, hit's the curb and jumps 2-3 feet straight up in the air. It then lands back on the street and rolls down the street(also on an incline) to the intersection of a 4-lane divided road. It goes into the intersection(on yet another incline) and makes a slow turn and rolls into oncoming traffic on the 4-lane road with cars swerving to avoid it. Some people were in shock at the sight and others were laughing so hard they couldn't stand up anymore. At that point we jumped into the van and got out of there. The next day on the way back to the bowling alley we saw the ball in the ditch 100 yards from the intersection. The ball probably traveled close to a quarter mile to get there.

When I lived just North of Dallas a friend of mine owned an airplane.I would give them to him.He and one of his friends had an old car set in a field and they would drop them and try to hit the car with them.  WHAT BIG DENTS THEY MADE!!!

hehehehe...this topic brings back memories.

Personally, I would just toss it in the trash dumpster....

I have a good friend who got so mad with his bowling on league night, that he took his ball out side and threw it down the street. Now mind you, at the end of this particular street is a freeway....a very busy freeway.

I dont know how that ball didnt hit not one vehicle....unbelievable!

You all could always go with this idea...

http://youtube.com/watch?v=CVvk0ve36bk

Haha.

About a year or so ago my buddy had an idea of what he called "Urban Bowling".  So of course, I tagged along to find out what he meant exactly.  Basically use his same approach and release in Parking Lots, Streets, Country Roads, Driveways.  Whatever he could hum them at without damaging anyones elses property.  Then at the end of the day once the ball was all chewed up, leave it in the neighbors front yard to see there reaction the next morning.  Not the brightest idea, but it was pretty interesting.

Im liking the bridge idea for an old unlucky Ebonite V2 laying around.... Haha.

When our alley got new pins, the mechanic we knew gave us an entire box of old pins. This church close by is on a huge steep paved hill, with a huge field behind the bottom of the hill. We set up the pins at the bottom of the hill and went up top with some old gear. It's allot harder than it seems to hit the pins from such a large distance...LOL... but about 30 tries and a 12 pack later I finally got a strike...
