Clean n' Dull
« on: December 15, 2010, 05:49:39 AM »
I just got a bottle of the PowerHouse brand Clean n' Dull and it looks and smells different than the Track branded Clean n' Dull in the clear squarish bottle.

The Powerhouse brand is a bit thinner, green , with a different smell.
The Track Brand was thicker, yellowish/brown, with a stronger chemical smell.

Does anyone know if they work the same?  Or if it is indeed just a different product now ???

I had both products and I can tell you they were different as you described.  I believe I got a bad bottle of the new stuff because it was really runny and sticky and hard to get off the ball.  My proshop guy had the same problem with the quart size he got, sent it back in and got new product back.  Seems better, the only negative to me is that you can no longer use it during league play anymore.

You have both products in hand now, right?  Please conduct a side by side test and give us the results.  You are in perfect position to do this.

I will try to check it out when I get home.
I will try to squeeze/shake enough out of the old bottle to do a test or two..

I know the old stuff seemed like it wanted to eat through the bottle over time.

lanemasters ball cleaner for me best ball cleaner I use to get rid of oil and grime on the coverstock. Brings back the coverstock to a fantastic tackness on the ball.

Did a test with the old vs new clean n dull.
The new clean n dull with the powerhouse logo is thinner

I did a test where I cleaned two adjacent spots left of my grip on the track flare area..I cleaned one area with the old clean n dull and the other area with the new version.

Seemed like the old one pulled more dirt off / out of the ball and onto the rag.
The old one seemed like it was actually penetrating the surface of the ball while the new one just seemed to sit on top of the ball and spread around.

After I cleaned both spots I switch cleaners and re-cleaned the spots with the other cleaner..
the new cleaner on the old cleaner spot.. didn't show much more dirt and oil on the rag..version on the new cleaner spot.. pulled a bunch more dirt and oil out of the ball and onto the rag..

So it looks like the new stuff is garbage in my opinion.. Looks like it is some antibacterial alcohol gel with some fragrance.. that is about it.

guess I need to find another cleaner or just stick with Simple Green.

I haven't tried it yet, but some people like "Neo Tec Hook-It" for a strong cleaner. I don't know if it does as good as the original Clean & Dull or not.

I think Steven has used both the Hook-It and Clean & Dull, but not positive about that. Maybe he will chime in here. I'm getting low on the old Clean &  Dull and will need something to replace it soon if the new Clean & Dull is no good.

I use C&D old Track version and charlest kindly sent me a sample of the new formulation of Hook-It branded by Brunswick.  I'd say they are both very close to the same cleaning ability.  Both are for prior/after bowling not approved for use during competition.  Both solvent based.

Brick, I use Hook-It as my primary cleaner. It's easy to use at the alley to clean stuff right after bowling. As scotts33 said, it's very close in cleaning ability to the Track version of C&D. I still have a lot of the old Track C&D, so I haven't had a chance to try the new version.

I was waiting for a charlest reply on this. Always has insight into these products. Sounds like Hook-It is the way to go. I used C&D for many years. Never found anything better. I guess Ebonite changed the formula?

IMO.....no the new branded by Brunswick label Hook-It is less foul smelling than the old branded Neo-Tac Hook-It.  It's still a stronger smell but not as objectionable.  At least to me.  Hook-It is a solvent based cleaner and is approved for use prior/after but NOT during not matter what the labels say on various websites.

charlest sent me a small sample of the Brunswick branded Hook-It to try and I compared vs. my old bottle of Neo-Tac Hook-It.  It is definitely a less offensive smell.

Sorry. When Ebo bought out Columbia, I had no idea what EBo would do with those great Track cleaners and compounds. So I bought quart containers of C&D, Clean and Sheen and a couple of smaller bottles of Delayed Reaction and Clean and Smooth.

I had an inkling that something was wrong with the new products when Ebo/Powerhouse changed the directions for the use of Clean and Dull but I had no proof.

I recommended to J_w73 that he try Hook-It, a Neo-Tac product, now marketed by Brunswick. It has much less smell than it used to have and can remove embedded oil shine  lines  like only 2 other products, that I aware of, can: C & D and Lanemasters cleaner. As Scott says, I tried it and it seems to work well.

Got to love when someone ruins a great product. I have less then half a bottle of Clean and Tacky left and will have to start checking around on a replacement.
