Bowling Ball Question That I Never Understood
« on: December 09, 2008, 01:56:26 PM »
How are some people on this site getting all their bowling balls?  I hear some go to pro shops and pay nearly $300.  I hear others buy balls online for a lot less.  I see others buy balls used.  My question, that is still a lot of money!

Either you guys drill your own balls or are secret ballers living in mansions!

I want the truth like Jack Nicholson!

Buy, swap, sell, trade.  I have done a little of all of that.  I don't use nearly as many these days as in the past though.

I've been known to go through 20-25 balls in a year.  Lately, it is down to a much smaller number.  I have only gone through 4 this year.

  Yeah, it's a pretty good chunk of change, but it's what I do.  I don't smoke, I don't fish, I don't hunt, I don't drink (much), but I DO bowl.

Yeah that's still living the high life though.  I was seeing some people on here that have gone through hundreds of balls.  Even if you drill your own stuff, own your own shop, and use the balls you get in bulk as your own.  That is like $50 a ball.  $50 x 100 = $5000!  I never understood that haha.  Then you got others buying retail at the pro shop for like $200.  $200 x 100 = $20,000.  That's a freakin nice car!  You can buy a used M3 for that!

I trade on here.
I buy maybe 1 or 2 balls new from my shop a year. ( I get a Discount )
I have the same span/pitches as my driller, haha, so I get used stuff cheap with 5 games on it, too haha. I remember I got my original ONE for $75 bucks, almost brand new haha.

necro i got some buddies that are big hunters, these guys regularly spend $5000 to $6000 a year on hunting, so im sure if bowling is a big hobbie thing for some guys its nothing for them to drop a few grand a season on bowling balls.

Heres a plan for you necro.
You have ten balls listed in your signature. Not a bad start.
One at a time over the course of the season place a post in the proper forum about how great that ball is.
Hype to the hilt. Use 3 or 4 alternate user names to talk it up until that ball is the second coming.
Post videos showing strike after strike after strike.
Finally announce sadly that it's time to part with your beloved gem and work out a two fer trade with one of the loyals.
Ten will get you twenty. Twenty will get you forty etc..
Soon you will be ballin with the big dogs.
This is tongue in cheek of course but it is possible to build up quite an arsonal through careful buys and trades.

Buzz, I for one would never laugh at that. My wife ran them for about a year, made on average over $22.50 an hour. (pay and tips together) She drives a Neon, 31-32 MPG in town so the gas wasn't a problem. There's money in it if it's done right, that's for sure.

I heard pizza driving isn't safe.  Where I grew up, people sometimes got robbed at gunpoint.  Pizza is serious business.  I know if I did it, I'd be packing some serious heat. (no Plaxico)
