Bowling balls left in hot car...
« on: May 22, 2004, 11:19:25 PM »
I left my Barbed Wire and Reloaded in my car. They were in contact with direct sunlight. It's 95 degrees. When I opened my bag, I noticed that my Barbed Wire literally sweated oil. The ball was covered in an oil-like substance. My Reloaded escaped the direct sunlight unscathed. What happened?

The ball was sweating... and the oil came out of the pores in the ball.  Its not nucelan physics here.

How do you explain the Reloaded not sweating? Aren't particle balls more absorbent than reactive balls?

How many games does the wire have?  The reloaded?  I'd say that would be the difference.

The Barbed Wire has about 50. The Reloaded has hundreds.

Ok, well then I'm not sure.  Perhaps the wire's cover will bleed oil in less hot temps than the reloaded will, but I supposed a stormer would know more about that than me.

i think you just stumbled upon a new way to extract oil from a bowling ball.

i dont know much about storm these days, so i really couldnt help you, but i would check the covers on both balls for any signs of cracks, because direct heat can do that to a cover if left in the heat for a prolonged period of time.

I have done this several times...
Not in direct light though... wrap ball in towel and stick bag in car.  Take out after a few min's and rub it down.

Since I live in SE Florida, now and then I put a ball out in the driveway for about 15 minutes, wipe it off, turn it over, do it again, and again and again until I think most of the oil has come out. Nothing bad has ever happened, but then, nothing great has happened (like an honor score after sweating a ball) either. But certain balls will lose more liquid than others. My Red Fuze sweats a ton but my old Champ does nothing even though it has more games on it.

Unscientific? Of course, but who cares.

Some of that could also be the plasticizer Ebonite's been talking about.

I would avoid exposing balls to direct sunlight tho... aside from the heat, (infrared range), you are also exposing the balls to the ultra-violet range.. which can't be good.
